Usage notes

The spelling with the change of ll into dd is the most common one through all the 50 oldest recorded variants of the Draumkvedet, even when this change does not occur in other words of the dialects used by different singers (it may be explained as writer's mistake or spelling normalization attempt, because most of the dialects of the recorded texts are known for their lack of ll). On the other hand, spellings with ll (like in the Old Norse ancestor) are also known (see Gjallarbru).
