Also, if all you're going to add to a page is the pronunciation, check to see that you have it right — in SAMPA the stress mark goes at the beginning of the stressed syllable (as in the IPA, and unlike American dictionaries) so these pronunciation-only entries you have added are incorrect. —Muke Tever 20:34, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I used a script to parse the entries from the pronouncing dictionary. Poccil 20:58, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Your script is buggy, and should have been tested first. There is, first off, the matter of the inaccurate stress marking (to which must be added, the SAMPA for the stressed rhotic vowel is [3`], not [@`]); also, it doesn't appear to be actually faithful to the data it's representing: you created the page Acndo for what the actual dictionary has Accommando—for some reason your script found it necessary to truncate this word. Your script also created an entry Abt for what should be ABT—your source is in monocase, and until you have casing information it is unwise to add entries like this, as titles past the first letter are case-sensitive. Furthermore your new stubs are not created anything like the common article template. —Muke Tever 21:50, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Incidentally, phonemic transcriptions are displayed in forward slashes "//", while phonetic transcriptions are in square brackets "[]", and the backslashes your script uses "\\" are semantically meaningless, please fix them. —Muke Tever 21:52, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Okay, I modified the script to your recommendations and now the generated pages will be essentially blank, no pronunciations. In addition, I changed the word list to disallow words that must be capitalized. Poccil 23:13, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Standard format

[edit]

Hi Poccil. Could you have a look at a few existing pages to see what the standard format is, and then use this in the new pages you are creating. For example, definitions are numbered using #, like this:

(entry for "me")

#A name I call myself
#A note to follow ray

which comes out as:

 1. A name I call myself
 2. A note to follow ray

Additionally, you will see that, because the page title always comes out capitalised, the standard is to repeat the word being defined underneath its part of speech to show whether (or when) it is actually capitalised:

Noun
ray
#A note to follow doh

Proper noun
Ray

#A male given name

which comes out as

Noun

[edit]

ray

 1. A note to follow doh

Proper noun

[edit]

Ray

 1. A male given name
Hi Poccil - thanks for taking my recommendations on board. — Paul G 08:57, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Poccil, you seem to be adding a few third-person singular forms as infinitives (eg, "to abets" and "to basks" instead of "to abet" and "to bask"). Could you make sure you set up the correct infinitives, please, otherwise this will mean extra work for other people later on. — Paul G 17:04, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hi there. I see you have added an entry for abeles but didn't give a definition. What's the point? Cheers SemperBlotto 22:39, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

cog

[edit]

Please verify the meaning you gave when you created the entry cog (see bottom of that page) and put it under the appropriate etymology. Ncik 16 Apr 2005
