[edit]Borrowed from Neapolitan, the equivalent of Italian immondizia and immondezza, from Latin immunditia (“dirt, untidiness”), from immundus (“dirty”), from im- (“without, not”) + mundus (“clean, elegant”). Doublet of immondizia and immondezza. Compare Sicilian munnizza.
