[edit]Reconstructed as angkat (“to lift”) + -an, from Malay angkatan (“military expedition, parade”, literally “lift”), from Classical Malay اڠكتن (angkatan).
- The sense of generation is a semantic loan from Dutch generatie from Komisi Bahasa (1944).
- The sense of force is a semantic loan from Dutch lichting (“conscription, draft”, literally “lifting”).[1]
