[edit]Inherited from Late Latin (via) carrāria, from Latin carrus. Akin to Aromanian cãrari, Spanish and Catalan carrera, Portuguese carreira, Occitan carrièra, French carrière (“career”) (hence the doublet carieră), charrière (“path, way”), Italian carriera (“career”), carraia (“road for carts or wagons”).
