[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]Disputed, possibilities include:
- Akin to Slovene cula (“bundle”), Hungarian cula (“bundle”).[1]
- A variant of the often synonymous crule, cërrule, itself akin to Serbo-Croatian crȅvlja/цре̏вља (“shoe”), Bulgarian цървул (cǎrvul, “type of shoe”).[2]
- Borrowed from Greek τσόλι (tsóli), τσούλι (tsoúli, “rag”).
There may be a conflation of multiple sources.
