cyd-weld
Appearance
Welsh
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From cyd- + gweld (“to see”).
Pronunciation
[edit]- (North Wales) IPA(key): /ˌkɨːdˈwɛld/, /ˌkɨ̞dˈwɛld/
- (South Wales) IPA(key): /ˌkiːdˈwɛld/, /ˌkɪdˈwɛld/
Verb
[edit]cyd-weld (first-person singular present cydwelaf)
- (intransitive) to agree
- Synonyms: cydsynio, cytuno
- Antonyms: anghyd-weld, anghydsynio, anghytuno
Usage notes
[edit]- As the stress on the final syllable, technically, this should be spelt with a hyphen as cyd-weld. However, the older spelling cydweld is very familiar and so extremely common.
