Etymology
[edit]Probably from Vulgar Latin *carudium, from Ancient Greek καρύδιον (karúdion), from κάρυον (káruon, “nut”); alternatively, from a substrate language: compare carolo and carocha.[1] Cognate with Portuguese caroço.
