Inherited from Proto-Bantu *nɲònì. Cognate with Rwanda-Rundi inyoni, Swahili and Mwani nyuni, Kikuyu nyoni and Luganda ennyonyi. Doublet of ekinyonyi. Compare Swahili ndege (bird; airplane).
