  1. (Sweden) preschool/nursery school (educational institution for children, usually aged 1 to 6, who not yet have begun primary school, or grundskola in Swedish)
    Synonyms: (official in Finland, no longer official in Sweden) dagvård, daghem, (slang for "daghem") dagis, (slang for "lekskola") lekis, (informal, mostly used in Finland; calque of German Kindergarten) barnträdgård
  2. (Finland) (since August 2015 compulsory) educational institution for children (usually between 6 and 7 years old) the last year before beginning primary school; equivalent to förskoleklass in Sweden (which, however, as opposed to Finland's förskola or esikoulu in Finnish, is part of the primary school as "grade 0")
