From Proto-Finnic *kolmë(t), from Proto-Finno-Ugric *kolme. Cognates include Estonian kolm, Erzya колмо (kolmo), Northern Khanty хәԯум (həłum), Northern Mansi хӯрум (hūrum) and Hungarian három.

Declension

Inflection is the same as type ovi (7) but with the nominative singular ending in -e rather than -i. Equivalently, it is nalle (8) for the singular forms and ovi (7) for the plural forms. However, in the ordinal form kolmas and the second possible multiplicative singular form kolmasti (*), the -e- is replaced with an -a- (see the ordinal form for more information).
