From *vitësh (cf. ablative form of vit (year) > vitesh), from Proto-Albanian *wetuša, from *wétos-jo, from Proto-Indo-European *wéteso (compare English wether, Sanskrit वत्स (vatsa), Romanian vițel). Related to Albanian vit (year).[1]
