From Proto-Turkic *oglak (baby goat), from *ogul (son, male child).

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (oğlaq, baby goat); Kazakh лақ (laq), Kyrgyz улак (ulak), Kumyk улакъ (ulaq, young goat), Uzbek uloq, Uyghur ئوغلاق (oghlaq), Khakas оғлах (oğlax), Turkish oğlak (baby goat).
