[edit]From Akkadian 𒂍𒃲 (ēkallum), from Sumerian 𒂍𒃲 (e₂-gal /ēgal/). Cognate with Arabic هَيْكَل (haykal) and Aramaic הֵיכְלָא (hēḵəlā).
