[edit]Ultimately from Chinese 茶 (chá). Compare Kannada ಚಹಾ (cahā), Gujarati ચા (cā), Hindi चाय (cāy), Punjabi ਚਾਹ (cāh) / چاہ (cāh), Nepali चिया (ciyā), Bengali চা (ca), Assamese চাহ (sah).
