Etymology 1
[edit]/kurejo/ → */kurej/ → /kurei/ → /kureː/ → /kure/
From earlier くれい (kurei).
One theory suggests a sound change from くれよ (kureyo), dropping the last vowel, from original kureyo to kurey (= kurei). Compare せい (sei), 来い (koi).
