=Notation=
The metric has signature <math>(+,-,-,-,...)</math>. 

Greek letters from the middle of the alphabet <math>(\mu,\nu,...)</math> denote coordinates in spacetime. Roman letters taken from the beginning of the alphabet <math>(a,b,...)</math> denote coordinates on the worldsheet.

The metric is denoted <math>g_{\mu \nu}</math>. In the case where there is a metric of spacetime and a metric of the worldsheet, the worldsheet metric is denoted <math>h_{a b}</math>

A lower-case <math>d</math> is the number of dimensions. An upper-class <math>D</math> represents the number of spacial dimensions.
