  • curprev 15:5515:55, 12 March 2023 123.208.140.95 talk 4,721 bytes +337 Taxonomy: C. raninus is an old species name that was never confirmed and was merely based on historical accounts of another broad-snouted freshwater crocodile species present in Borneo. Since no specimens have ever been collected and none have been photographed, it appears likely that it was actually misidentification of C. porosus individuals found far inland (which often occurs and may vary in physical appearance) or of the relict Bornean population of C. siamensis. undo Tags: Mobile edit Mobile web edit

The source says: [mtDNA analysis] "did not recover monophyly of mitochondrial haplotypes between northern and southern populations of C. novaeguineae". Not recovering monophyly actually indicates that they are more separate, with them possibly branching out earlier before C. raninus diverged later. So I'm removing the incorrect statement.
