The 1982 Alabama State Hornets football team represented Alabama State University as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) during the 1982 NCAA Division I-AA football season. Led by seventh-year head coach George James Jr., the Hornets compiled an overall record of 2–6–1. The 1982 season marked the first for Alabama State as a member of Division I after their reclassification petition was approved in June 1982.[1]
