Racing career

[edit]
The #99 Super Late Model in Tucson sponsored by Potomac Metals.

As a marketing student at Virginia Tech, he responded to a volunteer pit crew ad at nearby Old Dominion Speedway. That quickly lead to a 100 lap test session with #5 Late Model Stock Car owner Mike Southard & a USAC race with owner Jason Dull. He would soon run the marketing efforts for both Gunselman Motorsports & E&M Motorsports part-time NASCAR Cup Series teams.[citation needed]

In late 2012, Malycke would pair up with Ted Christopher at CFG Bank Arena and compete in several midget car racing indoor auto races in Allen County War Memorial Coliseum & Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.[citation needed]

Controversy In California

[edit]
A rare shot of the mysterious #08 NASCAR K&N West Toyota

Alex Malycke made his rookie debut in a surprise entry at the 2016 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship finale at All American Speedway in California, driving the No. 08 Toyota for Kevin McCarty. The car gained immediate notoriety as it was rumored to be both engineered and funded by 2d6 Chess,[1] a gaming company owned by Charles Severance of Alexandria, Virginia.[2] Although much remains a mystery, it was later revealed that car was originally built and somehow acquired from Michael Waltrip Racing.[citation needed] The #08 Toyota completed 123/151 Laps before suffering a transmission failure late in the race and would finish in nineteenth place.

After running Super Late Models at Las Vegas Motor Speedway he would successfully qualify for the 2019 Chilly Willy 150 at Tucson Speedway. That finish would lead to a Lucas Oil Modified Series start in Las Vegas, a familiar site.[3]

In 2023, he served as the crew chief and lead mechanic for Dale Shearer in the ARCA Menards Series East, where the team earned a top-ten finish at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

In May 2024, Malycke was originally scheduled to make his ARCA Menards Series East debut at Flat Rock Speedway driving a car owned by Brandon McKenzie[4] but operated by the notorious Roger Carter who lost track of the racecar. The recovered car is now expected to debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day with Alex again at the wheel.[citation needed]

The #21 Toyota sponsored by former Howard Stern comedian Jackie Martling & the Jokeland Comedy Tour

In November 2024, Malycke would return to the ARCA Menards Series West at Phoenix Raceway, driving the No. 21 Toyota for Nascimento Motorsports.[5][6] This time the car would appear on a much lighter note, as it would be both engineered & sponsored by comedian Jackie Martling from the Jokeland comedy tour.

On March 4, 2025, it was revealed that Malycke would attempt to make his ARCA Menards Series debut at Phoenix Raceway, driving the No. 86 Ford for Clubb Racing Inc. with sponsorship from HBO's Sons of Ecstasy and OURTHING.TV.[7][8] He ultimately finished 34th and last after failing to take the start due to mechanical issues.[9]
