Alix Ashley Earle (born December 16, 2000) is an American social media personality who rose to popularity posting "Get Ready With Me" videos on TikTok in which she shares details of her personal life. She has been called TikTok's "it girl". She is known for causing products she endorses to quickly sell out, which has been dubbed the "Alix Earle effect".[7]
Early life and education
[edit]Earle was born December 16, 2000,[8] in Monmouth County, New Jersey to Thomas "TJ" Earle, a construction magnate in Wall Township, New Jersey, and Alisa Maniaci, who is of Italian descent.[9][2][10] Her parents met at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.[11]
In July 2008, the New York Post reported that Earle's father was having an affair with Ashley Alexandra Dupré, an escort known for her involvement in the Eliot Spitzer political sex scandal that resulted in the New York governor's resignation.[12] Earle's parents divorced in 2013 and her father married Dupré in October of that year.[11][9][2] Earle has a younger sister, Ashtin Earle, and three half-siblings from her father's second marriage.[13]
Alix Earle graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in 2019 and attended the University of Miami, where she graduated with a degree in marketing in 2023.[9][14] Earle endowed the Alix Earle Scholarship for students at the Miami Herbert Business School.[15]
Career
[edit]Social media
[edit]In February 2020 as a University of Miami freshman, Earle began posting on TikTok.[16] Her first video depicted her and her friends showing off their outfits, which were made of trash bags.[2]
In a 2023 interview on The Howard Stern Show, Earle stated that she initially attempted to fulfill an idealized, perfect persona. "When I started out, I had no idea. I was trying to be picture perfect. I thought that was the way to go."[17]: 1:00
Earle's growth on TikTok accelerated in the summer of 2022, when she was affected by acne stemming from an excessive facial cyst. Her manager informed her that she had to post a sponsored video on her TikTok. Due to her acne, she initially refused, but later decided that she could use her platform to help others struggling with the same issue. Earle later described the viewer response as positive and supportive.[17]
After her acne video, Earle began posting "Get Ready With Me" (GRWM) videos showcasing her makeup routine while discussing her daily life.[4] She accumulated two million new followers on TikTok by the end of 2022.[2]
Earle's popularity and fan loyalty often causes the brands she promotes to sell out very fast, which has been dubbed the "Alix Earle effect".[2][3][4][5]
Podcast and other ventures
[edit]In September 2023, Earle announced a podcast, Hot Mess with Alix Earle, produced by The Unwell Network, a talent network led by Alexandra Cooper.[18][19] Upon its debut, Hot Mess with Alix Earle briefly unseated The Joe Rogan Experience from the top position on Spotify's podcast charts, a spot it had occupied for two years.[20]
Earle was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2023.[21]
In June 2024, Earle appeared in the music video for the single "Girls" by Australian artist The Kid Laroi.[22]
Personal life
[edit]Earle dated Tyler Wade, a professional baseball player for the San Diego Padres, for three months in late 2022. In November 2023, Earle confirmed her relationship with Braxton Berrios, a wide receiver with the Miami Dolphins.[23][24][25] In October 2023, Earle spoke publicly about her struggles with an eating disorder and body dysmorphia during high school.[26]
