Summary

Description Hawker Siddley XV-6A Kestrel aircraft at the U.S. Naval Air Test Center at Patuxent River, Maryland (USA), in 1966. Nine former Royal Air Force Kestrel FGA.1s (RAF serials XS688/XS696) were used used for tri-service tests by the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Navy. Only eight were deilivered, as one crashed in Great Britain. The XV-6A 64-18267 (RAF XS693) shown in the center of the picture crashed near Boscombe Down on 21 September 1967 following an engine failure. RAF Boscombe Down is an aircraft testing site located south of Amesbury, Wiltshire, Great Britian. The XV-6A 64-18262 (RAF XS688) is today preserved at the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio (USA).
