The Indian cricket team toured South Africa from December 2023 to January 2024 to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Test matches.[1] The Test series formed part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship.[2][3] The T20I series formed part of both teams' preparation for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament.[4] On 14 July 2023, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule of the tour.[5][6]
The T20I series was drawn 1–1, after first T20I was washed out due to rain.[7]
India won the ODI series 2–1.[8]
On 22 December 2023, South Africa's Dean Elgar announced that he would retire from the Tests after the Test series.[9]
South Africa won the first Test by an innings and 32 runs.[10] India went on to win the second Test by 7 wickets,[11] and drew the Test series 1–1.[12]

South Africa's Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi were selected for the first two T20Is only.[13] However, Ngidi was ruled out from the T20I series due to an injury and replaced by Beuran Hendricks.[19]
On 16 December 2023, India's Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the test series due to an injury.[20] India's Deepak Chahar was unavailable for the both ODI and T20I series citing family medical emergency.[21] Chahar was replaced by Akash Deep in the ODI squad.[22] Shreyas Iyer was also unavailable for the last two ODIs to prepare for the Test matches.[23]
On 17 December 2023, India's Ishan Kishan was withdrawn from the test team for personal reasons expressed and was replaced by KS Bharat.[24]
On 19 December 2023, Andile Phehlukwayo and Ottniel Baartman were ruled out of the last two ODIs due to injuries,[25] with Beuran Hendricks was added to South Africa's squad.[26]
On 22 December 2023, India's Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the test series due to an injury,[27] with Abhimanyu Easwaran named as replacement.[28]
For the second Test, Zubayr Hamza replaced injured Temba Bavuma in South Africa's squad,[29] with Dean Elgar named captain for the match.[30]
On 29 December 2023, Avesh Khan was added to India's squad for the second Test.[31]
On 30 December 2023, South Africa's Gerald Coetzee was ruled out of the second Test due to an injury.[32]

- Dean Elgar (SA) played in his last Test. He became the first player since Jack Barrett in 1890 to be dismissed twice on the same day in his final test match.[41]
- South Africa's first innings total of 55 was the fewest runs India have conceded in a completed innings of a Test match.[42]
- Shubman Gill (Ind) scored his 1,000th run in Tests.[43]
- This was the shortest Test in terms of balls bowled to end in a result (642).[44]
- This was India's first ever Test win at the venue.[45]
