Mercy Nnenda Chinwo (born 5 September 1991) professionally known as Mercy Chinwo but currently known as Mercy Chinwo-Blessed is a Nigerian Gospel Musician, singer, actress and songwriter. She was signed to EeZee Conceptz in 2017. In 2018, she released the single "Excess Love".[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Mercy Nnenda Chinwo now known as Mercy Chinwo-Blessed was born on the 5th of September 1991,[2] in Rivers State, southern Nigeria. Mercy Chinwo gained recognition through her participation in the Nigerian music talent show, "Nigerian Idol." She was a contestant on the second season of the show in 2012 and emerged as the winner, which significantly boosted her career in the music industry. Her victory on Nigerian Idol provided a platform for her to launch her music career, particularly in the gospel music genre. Several years after, she was signed to EeZee Conceptz in 2017 where she made releases of several successful gospel songs and albums, becoming a prominent figure in the Nigerian gospel music scene. She got her first school leaving certificate at the Goodwill International School and her secondary school education at Paradise International School.[3] She is an alumna of the International Business Management Institute (IBMI) where she bagged a degree in Human Resources Management.[4] She started singing at age 6 in her church's children's choir.[5][6]
Personal life
[edit]She got married[3] in the year 2022 on the 13th of August in Port Harcourt to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa; they currently live in Lagos, Nigeria.[7] They had their first child together in the year 2023.[8][9]
Career and philanthropy
[edit]Mercy is a Gospel Music Minister.[10] She released her first single, "Testimony" in 2015, and "Igwe". Two years later, she was signed to a gospel record label named EeZee Conceptz led by EeZee Tee.[11] Chinwo's single 'Excess Love' was released in the year 2018. Since breaking into the gospel scene, she has been featured on a number of gospel music projects, working with the likes of JJ Hairson, Nathaniel Bassey, Chioma Jesus, Banky W, Joe Praize, Samsong, Moses Bliss, Oluwadunsin Oyekan, Judikay, Preye Odede and a host of others.[12]
In 2023, she alongside her husband began the MercyisBlessed Foundation, an NGO focused on donations to the less privileged as well as youth development.[13]
Achievements
[edit]- In 2018, Chinwo was awarded the Best Gospel Artiste at the Climax Awards 2018.[14]
- In 2019, at the maiden edition of the Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST 2019), Chinwo was named winner in the categories Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year, Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year, and Africa Gospel Song of the Year (Excess Love).[15][16]
- In 2020, Chinwo emerges as the Gospel Artiste of the year at the AFRIMMA Awards.[17]
