[edit]

Greetings, has someone access to (English; apparently this publication is bilingual) this publication For Mount Hasan

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 14:45, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: - The publication is bilingual, which means that articles in both English and Turkish can be submitted. But, why do you believe each article (esp. this piece) to be bilingually published? Will be very weird, if true and does not seem to be so, in my eyes. If you can read Turkish, I will expend efforts to do it. ~ Winged BladesGodric 13:06, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, @Winged Blades of Godric:, there is absolutely no indication on the page that it only exists in one language. If the Turkish language version is the only one available, though, it's not really useful. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:38, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Check the constant bibliographic details, across the two tabs:-) I am 99.99% sure that only the version in tr exists. ~ Winged BladesGodric 18:15, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pigsonthewing: The Journal of the Franklin Institute published a series of 25 articles between October 1837 and September 1838. The first 22 are translations by Totten of various French works. The last 3 constitute Totten's Brief Observations on Common Mortars, Hydraulic Mortars, and Concretes. All of the articles are freely available online. German book / pamphlet / thesis...?

[edit]

{{resolved}}

Greetz all. Apologies from the beginning, but I'm not quite sure what this is:

Der weiße Rosendorn. Ein Märe von Bescheidenheit und Verschwiegenheit, ISBN 9783638773508, @Worldcat.

It's in German (obviously). ——SerialNumber54129 15:26, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Serial Number 54129, an "intermediate examination thesis" (https://www.grin.com/document/56499), roughly comparable to a BA thesis in the Bologna system. GRIN is a self-publishing company, which mostly publishes term papers and BA/MA theses. — Pajz (talk) 16:16, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much Pajz, that's a great help; so you'd say it was an unreliable source twice over? ——SerialNumber54129 16:18, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Serial Number 54129, under Wikipedia's policies/guidelines I'm pretty sure it would be considered unreliable (the author was in his second year of uni according to the excerpt). Doesn't mean it can't still be helpful, of course, but there's a practical issue as well, which is that it is basically an ebook (print on demand). As far as Germany is concerned, libraries only collect such materials in exceptional cases, and - unsurprisingly - there is not a single library in Germany that has a copy. (An electronic copy must be deposited with the national library, which explains the one Worldcat hit there is.) So I'm not quite sure how that would work. — Pajz (talk) 16:38, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
H'mm good point Pajz, yes the bibliography would probably be useful; I can find very little on the poem at the moment. Tell you what—I'll ask User:SoWhy to put it on his Santa list  :) Thanks for everything Pajz! ——SerialNumber54129 16:46, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Serial Number 54129, I don't really know what that means but as far as the bibliography is concerned, that might be something I could perhaps obtain via ILL from the German National Library. (Not sure, though, I've never requested anything from an e-only resource from them.) Legally, the problem is that the entire thesis is just 19 pages long (according to GRIN), and under German law the reproduction limit for libraries is at 10% of the work ... If you can find a Wikipedian from Leipzig or Frankfurt am Main with a ticket for the National Library, they could print out a bit more than that (still not the complete work, though), for a fee. Let me know if you want me to try to get the bibliography section. — Pajz (talk) 20:15, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: I wonder if you could have a go at that bibliography? Don't sweat over it, but if it's just a question of asking, I'd appreciate it. I'm also on the scrounge for this thing from Brill, if you have access? ——SerialNumber54129 11:44, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Serial Number 54129, I'll give it a try. @Brill: I do not have electronic access to the article and the printed volume is currently on reserve for another user (until Aug 9). You might want to create a new request for that so others can check if they have access. — Pajz (talk) 15:38, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: Right, I will—and thanks very much for going to the trouble! Enjoy your sunday, ——SerialNumber54129 15:53, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Serial Number 54129: I can access the Brill article, do you still need it? On a side-note, won't Brill ever repair their broken DOIs post their cluster-fuck of a site-move/redesign? ~ Winged BladesGodric 12:59, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks anyway, Winged Blades, I started a separate request beow and that came through last night. Appreciate the offer though! Ah! That would explan why their doi insisted the article didn't exist! :D ——SerialNumber54129 13:16, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also great! Thanks Pajz ——SerialNumber54129 11:30, 1 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's so much helpful! But, how did you dig this out?! I tried a lot of strings in Newspaper.com as well as Google but did not manage to retrieve anything other than the letters to editors:-( WBGconverse 15:53, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing fancy--I found the first page by googling, which gave me the date, then I used the Newspapers.com search function to find the continuation. Cheers, gnu57 01:53, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Winged Blades of Godric: Does that mean you have access to the above citation from Newspapers.com? If not, I can clip them. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 16:48, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MrLinkinPark333: The newspapers.com Wikipedia Library subscription doesn't include access to the New York Daily News – it's a "Publisher Extra Newspaper". Do you have another subscription? —Bruce1eetalk 17:49, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruce1ee: It's available to me as I was provided access to the publisher extra ones from Newspapers.com. I wonder if now the TWL has access to those publisher extras one or only has a limited amount provided by the webiste. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 17:55, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MrLinkinPark333: I checked again and I don't have access. I even logged off and back on again, but no joy. I can see that you clipped both pages, so clearly you do have access to publisher extras. I don't know why my TWL subscription excludes that content. —Bruce1eetalk 20:42, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Drmies: I'm a little bit confused. On, for example, #3, are you looking for the full book, a review of it, something else? Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:04, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Compassionate727, I suppose I wanted the books, haha--but you know what, the article is fleshed out enough, I think, with the sources I got. Thanks--let me mark this as done. Drmies (talk) 14:05, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More Ghostbusters II requests

[edit]
  1. LaSalle, Mick (June 16, 1989). "Ghostbusters II review". San Francisco Chronicle. San Francisco: Hearst Communications: E1.
  2. Sachs, Lloyd (June 16, 1989). "Ghostbusters II review". Chicago Sun-Times. Chicago: Sun-Times Media Group: 37.
  3. Benson, Sheila (June 16, 1989). "Ghostbusters II review". Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles: Los Angeles Times Communications LLC: 1.
  4. Clark, Mike (June 16, 1989). "Ghostbusters II review". USA Today. United States: Gannett: 1D.
  5. Schickel, Richard (June 26, 1989). "Ghostbusters II review". Time. United States: Time Inc.: 89.
  6. Groen, Rick (June 19, 1989). "Ghostbusters II review". The Globe and Mail. United States: The Woodbridge Company: D9.

For Ghostbusters II. I don't know what the actual titles are, I've gotten the details from the Ghostbusters II metacritic page. I'm hampered by GDPR blocking me, search engines for the sites not working, pay walls and lack of access to libraries stocked with American newspapers. Any of these would be appreciated but particularly the Mick LaSalle, Lloyd Sachs or Richard Schickel ones as they are prominent critics with their own articles.

Obituaries in British newspaper archives

[edit]

I'm trying to improve Jo Ann Kelly and these are obituaries for her in major British papers. I haven't been able to find access to them. Any suggestions for where to look? I've found significant reliable sources (books and contemporary magazines) but these are the ones I really want to find. I expect they will contain details of her career and her role in British blues of the 1960s and '70s.

Alan Ryan article

[edit]

Hello, I am looking for Alan Ryan's article "No easy way out", for use at Virtually Normal. Publication details: The New Yorker. 9/11/95, Vol. 71 Issue 27, p87. 5p. ISSN 0028-792X.

Thanks, Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 09:44, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how to extract my institution from the URL, but here's an EBSCO link, if anyone finds that convenient. Compassionate727 (T·C) 12:42, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Compassionate727: The EBSCO link only provides the "Detailed Record", or the citation, not the full article. Proquest also has the "Details" here, but not the full article. —Bruce1eetalk 13:28, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's because EBSCO (which I have access to) doesn't provide the article's text that I made the request. Freeknowledgecreator (talk) 22:23, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
