Ballgirl

[edit]

I have no idea how to edit references, can someone add this for the ball girl story in section 2, please? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/tennis/article6571986.ece sicaruma | contribs 16:30, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the ball girl story should be there at all - it is certainly not notable, it is more like trivia, which is discouraged on wiki. (There seems to be sime obsession with ballboy/ballgirl stories and Wimbledon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.44.140.187 (talk) 14:47, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree; it's a charming tale but trivial even for trivia. I've removed it (and put it below for record) as it unbalances the section it's in. Ericoides (talk) 08:00, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
( When Tommy Haas' second round opponent Michaël Llodra injured himself after colliding with a ballgirl at the side of the court, Haas offered one of her fellow ballgirls, 15-year-old Chloe Chambers, the racket and played a rally, which he won when she hit the ball out. The incident attracted much media attention, and appeared on the front page of The Times newspaper.[1] )

Shouldn't these sections be placed below the Seniors section?--Innerproduct (talk) 16:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who wrote this?

Look how long it takes you to find out who won! This needs to be completely redone. Kidshare (talk) 18:01, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually there's a players table indicating winners just on the top of the page. 93.32.176.229 (talk) 12:22, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seeds

[edit]

Probably as a result of Nadal pulling out, there's some confusion within the article on whether Federer was no. 1 seed or no. 2. Sometimes he's listed as one, sometimes as the other, while Nadal is mentioned at one point as being the no. 1 seed.

Everything I've seen published during the championship has listed Federer no.1 and had no mention of a no. 2 seed. I think that's probably correct, but don't know where to look for confirmation. The confusion in listing Federer and Nadal the other way round might have arisen due to using world-rankings rather than seeds. GDallimore (Talk) 12:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scratch that. I've found it on the BBC website. Federer was seeded 2. I'll make the necessary correction. GDallimore (Talk) 12:32, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

section on suspicious betting

[edit]

This is just full of non-Wimbledon related background, copied from source articles and seriously misinterprets the background material. For example, that the TIU intend to monitor 6 - 12 players in 45 matches. That would require the identification of 12 players to get to at least the 4th round - impossible! The 45 matches refers to an 18 month old investigation. I'm not sure that its worthy of inclusion and certainly not as #1 in the entire article. It's less significant than the roof, that #1 seed and current holder Nadal withdrew, that the ratings were the highest etc. These are material facts. The betting section is opinion. leaky_caldron (talk) 13:12, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

images

[edit]

Why is there a picture of Nadal in the beginning of this article? I understand he was defending champion, but he did not play. There is no image of Venus Williams who was defending champion, but there are two of Serena. Meanwhile, the only Federer image is halfway down the page. I think the Nadal image should be removed or replaced with the Federer image. Morhange (talk) 03:50, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
