Carmel Valley not equal to Carmel Valley Village

Carmel Valley and Carmel Valley Village are two seperate entities. 'Carmel Valley' is the geographic area that runs from the mouth of the carmel river at carmel river beach west/soutwest.

Carmel Valley Village aka The Village is the township in the unincorporated geographic area of Monterey County. There should be two different entries or at least a designation of such.

One who lives in Carmel Valley does not necessarily live in Carmel Valley Village, as where one who lives in The Village does live in Carmel Valley. The Village is roughly 12 miles west on (country route) G12 from Hwy 1. Although the valley starts roughly at said intersection.

If there are no objections I will make the changes.

I previously merged the two articles, this one and Carmel Valley, California, because, not only was there just duplicated content about the township, but also there seems to be a conflict within the government agencies as to what the township is actually called.
  • The U.S. Census Bureau regards it as "Carmel Valley Village" [1]
  • Using their Zip Code database, the U.S. Post Office regards it as just "Carmel Valley". If you enter "Carmel Valley Village" in the Search by City lookup, it says that it is not accepted.

If anything, as per a comment on Talk:Carmel Valley, essentially Carmel Valley should be moved to Carmel Valley (disambiguation) so content about the valley can be put on that page instead. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 22:24, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the USGS Geographic Names Database, "Carmel Valley Village" is listed as a variant name of "Carmel Valley".[2] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 22:54, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just converted Carmel Valley to talk about the just the geographic region. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 00:10, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would think, when there such a conflict within the agencies of government, the commonality of how the public refers to such places in everyday life would suffice, though i don't know how wikipedia standards/rules make conflict with that. --Ikyork 18:14, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, what is more common should suffice. But the question is what is the most common? Currently, since Carmel Valley is now just about the geographic region, and Carmel Valley Village, California is about the township, the question is where should the redirect Carmel Valley Village, California point to? I'm thinking the following, ideas/thoughts are welcome: Carmel Valley should go to the disambiguation link and the current article for Carmel Valley should be the article for Carmel Valley, CA. While the Carmel Valley Village, CA article should remain the same concerning cencus data et al. Thoughts?
Also with that said, I would argue what is ultimately common is "Carmel Valley". It acts as the catch all for the areas within (The Mouth of The Valley, Mid Valley, The Village, Cachagua, etc) with the aforementioned areas being used when further specificity is needed. --Ikyork 04:09, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carmel Valley as an unincorporated area...

As per this recent article in the monterey county herald, carmel valley is currently an unincorporated area seeking possible cityhood.
