Fair use rationale for Image:Charliewilson.jpg

[edit]

Image:Charliewilson.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Clarification regarding the name "Uncle Charlie"

[edit]

I was curious if anyone knows if Charlie Wilson might be any relation to Snoop Dogg. Charlie Wilson and the GAP Band originated in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Snoop Doggs cousin, Daz Dillinger (Delmaur Arnaud) spent part of his childhood growing up in Oklahoma. Since Snoop has family connections in Oklahoma, I'm wondering if Snoop gave him that name because out of respect, or because of an actual blood relationship. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.19.102.80 (talk) 15:38, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. Reads like it was written by Charlie Wilson's publicist. Zaccuardi (talk) 20:57, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Neutral point of view noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Hello, Charlie Wilson (singer). This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Charlie Wilson (singer). Thank you. Erpert WHAT DO YOU WANT??? 03:25, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not my subject area, but I've done a straightforward editorial job removing some of the words that could never be NPOV etc. There was a reference to a song being a top wedding single for years to come that had a citation from a website that no longer exists, so that has gone, plus a reference to "years of mismanagement" which clearly also had to go as it was unreferenced. I've also added in some less complimentary but important personal info from the same cited article. Edits grouped logically if another editor feels some should be reverted. Matruman (talk) 14:23, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Erpert, to come in and make entire wide-scale deletions of entire sections that include otherwise sourced material that may have been included with a small number of potentially unsourced and slight NPOV (along with comments like "Oh Please" and "I like Charlie but") seems a little biased and non-neutral based on your own beliefs don't you think??? If you weren't a regular contributor who appears to want to help clean up pages this would have borderlined vandalism but is definitely reckless and irresponsible. You deleted the entire personal life section which from my reading of the USA Today piece that was referenced pretty much was written verbatim to it. I agree with Matruman who tried to re-include some of that USA Today piece to include the "less complimentary" information after you deleted the entire section but all of that was already there prior to your nuclear deletion of the section. You deleted the fact he was on drugs, homeless, then sober, and turned his life around which is referenced in dozens of articles (including the USA Today piece) prior to your entire deletion of the section and just leaving the married to his wife sentence. Then to completely delete the section of years of honors and awards with "I like Charlie but.." and saying none of it was sourced is reckless. What gives you the right to delete obviously mainstream sources as the BET Lifetime Award (which aired and I think was referenced earlier in the article), the Trumpet Awards Lifetime Achievement (which aired numerous times in syndication), the Billboard Award placement from the year end charts (which is sourced), and numerous Keys to Cities and acknowledgements by the civil community (I don't think these would be made up as someone probably has the press releases or the plaques to support them). These all need to be re-instated as they are completely relevant to his page and displayed for the viewers who want to research him and should never been deleted because you want to say "Oh please..." with an obvious negative bias. I also plan on going through to find relevant sources and re-instating much of the deletions that you made with individual sources so this doesn't happen again and we can move on with the neutrality issue. 76.20.24.188 (talk) 18:52, 24 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talks and honours having now gone back in, and a bit more personal life having been added from the article, I'd suggest the article is now in decent shape and the NPOV and more info needed (on personal life) tags can be removed. Doesn't stop more info being added, obviously, though I would suggest that not too much more should go in from the USA Today article, as it is obviously written primarily from Wilson's own point of view. That's why I've kept to a few of the key facts, and have not used his reported speech as statements of fact. Matruman (talk) 10:27, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie Wilson discography

[edit]

Support split - Discography section takes up almost one third of the page, and should be split to a new article entitled Charlie Wilson discography. --Jax 0677 (talk) 02:48, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
