If the firm is "Headquartered in New York, New York...," why remove the category tag for for ? {(Undid revision 347668438 by James R (talk))}--James RTalk 5 Mar 2010

[edit]

I've tagged the article with the 'advert' template and 'refimprove' templates - it reads largely like it has been written by the PR department! The profiles of each business unit seem to be excessive and completely lacking independent sources. I suspect the 'notable projects' are 'projects we'd like to tell you about' - if they are notable then provide the proof! Sionk (talk) 22:06, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this template was taken off, although much of the language still reads like a press release and is unsourced. I am adding the template back and would like to delete a lot of the unsourced material near the bottom of the page. Deadbolt44 (talk) 16:00, 3 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please approve the following suggested edits that are shown here, and tell me specific ways to improve the sourcing so the top warning message is removed:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=&diff=prev&oldid=1228553534

I have a conflict of interest as Perkins Eastman's communications writer; but there are errors on this page that need to be corrected.

Also, I don't know how to add things like our logo and project images. Please advise, thank you. Jserge630 (talk) 21:38, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • What I think should be changed: Add a link to Mary-Jean Eastman's name in the company info box
  • Why it should be changed: Brad Perkins is linked to his Wikipedia page, but Mary-Jean doesn't have one. The fact that one name is linked and the other is not suggests one is more important than the other, when they are both equal partners
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button): https://www.madamearchitect.org/interviews/2020/11/2/mary-jean-eastman
Not done Eastman isn't linked because she doesn't have a Wikipedia page, not because she's less important. If she had a page it should of course also be linked. Rusalkii (talk) 00:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • What I think should be changed: Rewrite top paragraph as such: Perkins Eastman is an international architecture, urban design, planning, strategic consulting, and interior design firm. Headquartered in New York City, the firm is led by founding principals Bradford Perkins and Mary-Jean Eastman. (and while Brad's name is linked to his Wikipedia page, please link Mary-Jean's name here: https://www.madamearchitect.org/interviews/2020/11/2/mary-jean-eastman)
  • Why it should be changed: to better reflect the scope of PE's work in order of importance (i.e. interior design is not as big a practice as urban design and master planning and consulting).
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

https://www.bloomberg.com/profile/company/0157046Z:US?embedded-checkout=true https://www.dnb.com/business-directory/company-profiles.perkins_eastman_architects_dpc.1803c08db12ff32df84a2da1e77e1a9b.html

Partly done As a general rule we don't link to outside websites in the text like that, Perkins' name is linked because he has a Wikipedia page and Eastman doesn't, as I mentioned above. Rusalkii (talk) 00:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • What I think should be changed: History section:

"...Dwight Heald Perkins, started an architecture firm firm in 1884 after beginning his career at Burnham and Root in Chicago, and his work would become affiliated with the Prairie School of architecture."

  • Why it should be changed: error in date, plus additional context
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwight_H._Perkins_(architect)

Not done, a different Wikipedia article isn't an acceptable source especially when it itself doesn't have a citation, and the source given in the current article says 1897. I did link Dwight Perkins as requested. Happy to change the date if a source is given. Rusalkii (talk) 00:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • What I think should be changed: title format, spelling error in History section: Perkins&Will ...reorganized the firm as Bradford Perkins...
  • Why it should be changed: Perkins&Will company reference was incorrect, according to the Perkins&Will website and Wiki page. Tense on "reorganizes" was incorrect; it should be past tense.
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button): Perkins&Will
Not done The "reoganizes" -> "reoganized" change has already been made. I don't understand what you're requesting changed about Perkins&Will. Rusalkii (talk) 00:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • What I think should be changed: Delete paragraph beginning "By offering architecture, interior design..." Add:

The firm has grown to more than 1,000 employees and 24 studios around the world, working across 18 practice areas; its commissions have spanned more than 60 countries.

  • Why it should be changed: numbers were incorrect and list of practice areas was incomplete.
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

https://perkinseastman.com/markets/ https://perkinseastman.com/timeline/

Partly done "By offering...." paragraph seems to have already been deleted. I have rephrased and trimmed the "more than 1,000 employees" sentence - "18 practice areas" isn't specified in the source and doesn't seem necessary. I wasn't sure where you wanted it so I inserted it at the end of the growth and expansion section. Rusalkii (talk) 00:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • What I think should be changed: Change wording in Leadership section

Delete existing copy. Add: In addition to the co-founders, Chairman Bradford Perkins and Vice Chair Mary-Jean Eastman, the company named Shawn Basler, Nick Leahy, and General Counsel Andrew Adelhardt III as co-CEOs on Sep. 25, 2019. The five leaders comprise an executive committee that also includes principals Hilary Bertsch, Jeffrey Brand, Jason Haim, Stephanie Kingsnorth, Barbara Mullenex, Supriya Thyagarajan, Jeff Young, Chief Financial Officer Paul Grillo, and Human Resources Director Salema Gumbs.

  • Why it should be changed: Existing information was incomplete.

  • What I think should be changed: Wording under Growth and Expansion:

Today, Perkins Eastman is the second largest New York-based design firm per Crain's New York Business, the 14th largest architectural firm in the United States according to the Architectural Record, and the fifth largest architecture firm in the world by revenue according to Building Design + Construction.

Beyond its New York headquarters, the firm maintains domestic offices in: Pittsburgh (1994); Stamford, Connecticut (1998); Charlotte, North Carolina (2001); Chicago (2001); Washington, DC (2005); Boston (2007); San Francisco (2011); Los Angeles (2015); Dallas (2016); Costa Mesa, California (2018); Oakland, California (2018); Raleigh, North Carolina (2020); Austin (2021); Providence, Rhode Island (2021); and Seattle (2021). Internationally, Perkins Eastman operates in Toronto (1999); Shanghai (2005); Dubai, United Arab Emirates (2007); Guayaquil, Ecuador (2008); Mumbai (2008); Vancouver (2021); and Singapore (2022).

  • Why it should be changed: existing list is a bunch of old, random press links. New list is more updated and relevant to the firm in general
  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

links included with each reference above.

Partly done I have deleted the entire "further reading" section, they're often inappropriate and just collect "old, random press links" as you said. Rusalkii (talk) 00:01, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jserge630 (talk) 23:23, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for reviewing my COI edit requests and approving the edits. I appreciate your time.
There are still a couple things that need updating: the co-CEOs were announced on Jan. 25, 2019, but under the Leadership section, it also includes a Sep. 25 date. Can I edit that myself? Here is the press release dated 1/25/19: https://perkinseastman.com/2019/01/25/perkins-eastman-unveils-its-succession-plan-as-co-founders-l-bradford-perkins-and-mary-jean-eastman-transition-leadership/
Also, under "Leadership," I need to add mergers for Kliment Halsband Architects (2021), and BLTa (2022). Can I make these corrections? Here are the references:
https://archinect.com/news/article/150326854/perkins-eastman-announces-acquisition-of-kliment-halsband-architects
https://hospitalitydesign.com/news/business-people/perkins-eastman-blt-architects-merger/
And most importantly, what do I need to do to remove the box at the top of our page that states "this article needs additional citations for verification." ?
Thank you again,
Jennifer Sergent (I am COI as head communications writer for Perkins Eastman Architects) Jserge630 (talk) 22:15, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[Move here from my talk page] Rusalkii (talk) 00:13, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to correct the date yourself.
I'm confused why you want to add the mergers under Leadership. Do you mean Growth and expansion? I don't love that section, ideally it should be folded into History and the long lists with context removed, but given that it's there you can go ahead and add the two new ones.
To remove the tag, all information should be sourced. Much of Growth and expansion is unsourced - I assume the timeline after Pfeiffer Architects is meant to be a source for all the expansions, but this doesn't seem to back it up. For instance, I see under 1991 "A rapid period of growth begins, in which Perkins Eastman opens its first regional offices in Pittsburgh and Toronto and starts acquiring other architecture firms such as Quick Ledewitz, Sherwood Mills & Smith, and Susan Black Architects", while Susan Black is listed as 1999. The end of the history section is also unsourced, and I haven't checked the other sources to make sure they support all the information given but when there's one error like that there's usually more. Rusalkii (talk) 00:23, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I've trimed list of offices, this is unnecessary detail and not particularly encyclopedic. I may come back and trim down the expansions as well Rusalkii (talk) 00:26, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your guidance. I'm new at this and I'm coming into this page to try to update it after it's been static for a few years. Honestly I agree with you/ I don't mind nixing the list of merger companies altogether and just keeping the paragraphs at the bottom of Growth & Expansion. In its place I would like to add lists of notable projects and awards, as other larger architecture firms have done on their pages. I would also like to include images of notable projects, in addition to adding our logo in the sidebar box. Will this be OK? Jserge630 (talk) 13:50, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A list of projects would be reasonable. Try to find independent sourcing on them, not just the company's page - if the only writing about them is the company, it's hard to tell if it's WP:DUEWEIGHT to include.
For awards, as a COI editor you should be very careful with those. My usual rule of thumb is that I'll add an award that has it's own Wikipedia page, which is pretty strong evidence that it's a notable award, or if the award given to this company was covered in several high-quality independent sources.
For images, a single logo can be uploaded under fair use, but everything else needs to be under a compatible license. Rusalkii (talk) 16:58, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Any image I would upload would be owned by Perkins Eastman. I will look at that link to verify it follows all the rules. Thank you for your advice on awards and projects. And just confirming -- I will be requesting these additions here on the talk page before actually updating the live page? Jserge630 (talk) 13:54, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please do so, except for the logo which you should feel free to add whenever. Rusalkii (talk) 17:21, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a new source under history, and updated the citation for Eli Attia joining Perkins Eastman. I've spent a lot of time trying to find an independent source for this sentence: "By 1985, Perkins and Eastman partnered with Barbara Geddis, and the name changed to Perkins Geddis Eastman." Geddis' own LinkedIn account lists 1983 for her arrival at PE, and I can find nothing recorded of Attia leaving the firm, although I have seen several references to "Eli Attia architects" and their work in the late 80s, which suggests that he was no longer with Perkins Eastman. Do you have any suggestions as to how I should treat this sentence? I really want to make sure everything is properly sourced so the tag at the top can be removed, thank you. Jserge630 (talk) 16:06, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately these kind of exits are often difficult to source - it follows logically from everything available that they're no longer there, but no one just says it outright. If there's any published company documents supporting this, that would be acceptable WP:ABOUTSELF. Or perhaps just a list of partners implied to be complete, with no Attia? In the absence of anything like that I would try something like sourcing Attia's exit to his independent firm (very sketchy but better than nothing, I would leave it out except then the text implies that he's still there, which isn't really better). Then just drop everything about Geddis altogether if you can't find a source, and put something like "by [earliest date you can find a source], the name had changed to Perkins Eastman." Rusalkii (talk) 17:10, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The interesting thing is that I DID find an outside source for Geddis' departure in 1991, which I already inserted as a citation. It was a local AIA journal stating clearly that the firm became Perkins Eastman! So, score :-) But that still leaves me with nothing pin-pointing her arrival, beyond her own LinkedIn account. I have a citation for Attia's arrival, but not his departure. I will look at your "aboutself" link. I'm becoming a little obsessed with getting this tag removed!
