Sister Fidelma
[edit]- copied from my talk page
Thanks for editing the Sister Fidelma article... it was my first try apart from 'sandbox'-fooling Lectonar
- No problem. I'm sure I read some of those books a while back and seeing it on Detective fiction intrigued me. Would you be able to define some of those Irish legal terms? --Phil | Talk 12:14, Nov 5, 2004 (UTC)
Speedy deletes
[edit]Remember to check the article history when nominating an article for speedy delete; fx the text at Abe Lincoln in Illinois was completely replaced by a vandal. Happy wiki editing :). Thue | talk 13:55, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Book Version?
[edit]Heh. Oh, it's obvious that WP runs on some bizarre open-source system designed to supplant the most worthy BOOK system. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cat were behind it... :-) Inky 19:05, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Kleinert
[edit]Hi! As you mentioned that you had Hagen Kleinert as a teacher at university, I wonder if it would be possible for you to rewrite the article from scratch in a way which explains his research and makes its significance somewhat clearer to non-physicists? We could then move the present autobiographical article to user space and avoid that policy problem. / Uppland 12:45, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
NYC Subway stubs
[edit]I see you've been changing some NYC Subway station stubs to rail-stubs. I recently created Template:NYCS-stub for these; you may want to use that. --SPUI (talk) 09:30, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Agreed; that's why I usually just use stub. --SPUI (talk) 09:34, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Re:Starky reverts
[edit]Hi Lectonar - you wrote: I just noticed that you protected several pages geo-stub-sorted by me and reverted by Starky, obviously especially the ones concerning Czechia; is there a problem which I could help to resolve?
- Thanks for the offer, and I'll definitely keep it in mind. At the moment I'm waiting for a developer's investigation of whether User: Starky is a sockpuppet.
- Basically (to cut a long story short), new user User:NoPuzzleStranger starts getting into edit wars to do with European geography articles (notably about the term Czechia) skirting and occasionally exceeding the three revert rule. Then a new user appeared in Wikipedia - User:Starky. His total time on Wikipedia was two hours. During this timey, he created Template:Czech-geo-stub and replaced every use of Template:Czechia-geo-stub with this new template. Finally, he listed Template:Czechia-geo-stub on tfd - to be supported by NoPuzzleStranger. During the following two days NoPuzzleStranger has several times edited and/or reverted the two templates and their associated categories, only to be reverted by one of several other users. In the end I did the only thing I could think of - I protected the original template and category.
- Understandably, if (as I suspect) Starky and NoPuzzleStranger are the same person it'll put a different light on things, so I'm waiting to find out whether that's the case before going any further - but, as I said, I'll keep your offer in mind! Thanks! Grutness|hello? 23:39, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Conas atá tú?
[edit]The Irish wikipedia is in desperate need of contributors. At the moment there is around 5 active wikipedians(or vicipéideoirí in Irish). If you can, come and help us at ga, it doesn't matter your standard of Irish, there are people there to correct it for you. We're at 778 articles at the moment and pushing for 1,000 but it's slow work with so few contributors. So come and help us pleae. Bí ann! - Dalta 22:05, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Crime-book-stub
[edit]Hi Lectonar - the link from the template to the category was fine, but you'd categorised the category into a non-existent parent. It should be fine now. And there's no need for the "sorry to disturb you" business. I'm happy to help :). BTW, I see from your user page we share a common interest - although I haven't read much of Harry Turtledove, I'm also a fan of alternative timeline books (Randall Garrett's "Lord Darcy" series are probably my favourites!) folow up from de:User Talk:Hagrid: Ich habe begonnen diesen Artikel aus de: zu Übersetzen, bin aber noch nicht damit fertig.

[edit]Sorry, I intended to do it that night and got distracted. A Query
[edit]I am pretty new to Wikipedia, and constantly both learning and astonished. I cannot quite make it all out - like the world, it is probably a mystery.
More specifically - how did you pick up and welcome user:Eliot Stearns? Since he wrote an article on the Wiener Library it seems entirely appropriate but how did it happen? Was that also 'chance.'
I am looking for help with developing the article on Hannah Arendt and synchronistically checked to see if there was an article on the library as part of my attempt to make contact with Margaret Canovan who did the introduction to the English edition of Arendt's : "The Human Condition."
I came to your page to find who it was that had welcomed 'eliot_stearns' and find there a reference to WP:CSB which is a major concern of mine! Still of greater interest to me is synchronicity. Jeffrey Newman 08:03, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
A Welcome
[edit]I would like to to thank you for your kind welcome, although i cannot help but wonder if there is a hidden message - the one time i post something about a halfway serious topic, someone notices me.
I would also like to thank you for the information you provided, i thought typing out name and date stamps every time was a little tedious... Grey Area 14:11, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
Geo-stub and political
[edit]Cunningham, Queensland Electoral District you converted a stub from generic stub to Category:Australia geography stubs I'm not sure I agree. Electoral districts in Australia have boundaries that move every few years, and have no significance other than being the pool of voters from which a member is elected to arliament. Not asying it is wrong, just not sure it is appropriate. There is a Category:Electoral divisions of Australia but it is not applicable as it covers Commonwealth rather than state seats. Also Oz geo-stubs is overloaded. Alex Law 10:53, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
categorized deletion
[edit]Hi - you wrote: since the breakup into dayly portions, it isn't in one place any more and second: I see categorized deletion as much as an, ok let's call it an editing tool as stub-sorting; getting the right people to look at the right things
I see your point... I guess I think of it as still being in one place because of the way I use it - I go to WP:VFD and click on the latest day, then go back through the previous few days by simply changing the last digit of the page's name. It does have an advantage over a category in that you can see what items are new, though. Grutness...wha? 01:08, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

A question...
[edit]Reading through your comment on Wikipedia talk:sfd, I realised that there has been a gross oversight. No-one seems to have nominated you for admin yet! If you'd be keen to become an admin, I'd be more than willing to nominate you... Grutness...wha? 11:42, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
- Limited computer access is a disadvantage, but there are quite a few admins who don't contribute huge amounts to the janitorial side of wikipedia. I thin if you're doing the sort of work where things like rollback would be an advantage then there might still be a point in you having admin powers. Have a think about it anyway. if you decide not to, that's fine, I'd understand it... maybe one day you'll join the 21st century and get online at home :) Grutness...wha? 13:10, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

- Oh excellent. It's very satisfying when a stub you've created gets expanded, even slightly. By the way, I see you're involved in translation to/from the German Wikipedia. I think this is one of the most underrated aspects of Wikipedia (since not many people read Wikipedia in more than one language, including me). [edit]Thank you! Once I've had enough of creating stubs, I'm going to go back and create decent articles for some stubs. I will investigate that translation barnstar too as you surely deserve one. Soo 10:39, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hallo, wie Geht’s? Ich habe einen problem: I speak little German…. too little, but I managed to make a rough translation into English of a German fragment taken from the back cover of an album released by an Icelandic band. I need you to check whether my translation is accurate or not.
Here is the text in German:
Gemäss der Verordung des Reichspräsidenten vom 28. Februar 1933 ist die Verteilung aller ausländischen Veröffentlichungen der politisch-psychologischen Reiche der Verleger für Sexualpolitik (Verlag für Sexualpolitik, Kopenhagen, Dänemark, ebenso, Prag, Tchechoslowakei und Zürich, Schweiz) im Reich bis auf weiteres verboten.
Here is how I translated it: According to the order by the Reich’s president on February 28, 1933 the distribution of all foreigners publications about the physiologic politics of the Reich editor for the sexual politics (Editorial for sexual politics, Copenhagen, Denmark, the same as Prague, Czechoslovakia and Zurich, Switzerland) has been so far forbidden in the Reich.
That’s it. I will add this text to the article The Fourth Reich with further explanations of its meaning. Aufwiedersehen mein Freund! Luis María Benítez 18:36, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
