Sabean colonisation of the horn
[edit]Completely fabricated and clearly an attempt to skew history. There is no evidence of an colony in Eritrea or Ethiopia and suggesting they were responsible for the languages and cultures is not factual or based on evidence. The only evidence being that they had a relationship of trade. I notice there is a trend on wikipedia to distort the history of the two. 51.190.236.134 (talk) 15:05, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate your knowledge on the topic, of which I have none, but your edit was reverted simply because you blanked an entire section that had citations without even providing an edit summary. I don't think that section is very well presented merely from a manual of style context, Wikipedia is not an essay with points and conclusions, but big content changes like you're proposing should be discussed on the article's talk page. -- MacAddct1984 (talk | contribs) 15:22, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Macaddct1984,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Adding public policy positions
[edit]Hi MacAddct1984, I'm a longtime wiki reader, but a relatively new editor so could use your help in appropriately editing pages. The page I'm trying to update is Nancy Boyda's wiki. Her policy position section is very limited given that she is a former Member of Congress and current candidate for the House of Representatives. She has clear positions on topics that people across the political spectrum should know about. I'd like to add in her position on issues such as abortion, health care, and climate change. I tried to do this using her website as proof thinking it was a good source, but you reverted the text. Can you help me thread the needle in adding this useful information to her wiki in an appropriate way? Thanks for your time. Data10101 (talk) 17:06, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, @Data10101: I'm happy to help. A few things to keep in mind:
- Any possible conflict of interest you may have with the subject. If any exits, it should be stated; that's talked about on the COI page
- Wikipedia isn't a soapbox. I know you feel it's important for the public to know about the candidate's positions, but that's not Wikipedia's purpose
- Biographies of living people need to be sourced appropriately and ideally not with primary sources (like the person's own candidacy page). Instead, it's better to use secondary sources like news articles that cover the subject. For example instead of
"Smith is pro-X<candidate website citation>"
use"During their time in Congress, Smith has a voted for X, Y, and Z<newspaper coverage>"

- Thank you! This is very helpful. The section in question was a recent addition to the page. It was originally title "Controversies," which you changed to the more neutral and appropriate for Wikipedia "Political Positions." This whole section appeared after she announced her campaign and the only issues listed in it seem designed to hurt her in a primary election. To keep the page more neutral and reflect your guidance around Wikipedia not being a soapbox, would it be possible for you as a moderator to remove this section all together? I'm concerned that just leaving these two issues would lead readers to believe they are her only or primary political positions. I also don't believe they were added to Wikipedia in good faith based on their original tone and word choice. I really appreciate your guidance and help maintaining the cite! Data10101 (talk) 22:26, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia isn't censored, nor does change content based on whether it helps or hurts someones campaign. NPOV means neutral editing, not neutral content; Wikipedia covers what secondary sources cover. You have yet to state what your association is with Boyda. The lengths at which your going to have this article changed regarding their campaign is rather troubling. -- MacAddct1984 (talk | contribs) 01:50, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Talk page
[edit]Did you mean to blank the message you left of my talk page? If you read the info I added, it falls within WP:LEAD, and it is DUE given its gotten coverage for months. And, honestly, it’s the only reason the guy has a page really (though that’s just my opinion and falls outside guidelines). The talk page additionally is coming to a consensus that info should be in the lead. It’s not spam. —2601:8C0:380:35C0:5461:811E:9DA5:5139 (talk) 22:20, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

I did, yes, it was a slightly hasty warning/rollback on my part, because I don't think your edits were malicious. However, I think using the term "rape" comes close to WP:SYNTH, because after just a quick search, nowhere is described it as rape. -- MacAddct1984 (talk | contribs) 22:27, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

- I guess you can start helping me by directing me to some articles or pages to read so I can write within Wikipedia's guidelines and rules. SupremeEditorSnoke (talk) 04:05, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Not a problem! Wikipedia's guidelines can be pretty difficult to navigate and seem pretty overwhelming, especially when starting off. It's also easy to get discouraged when people revert things you're doing in good faith and when other editors come off as hostile.
- Even the resources that are available to new users can be overwhelming:
- Some common issues that come up:
- If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask. There's also the Teahouse (Wikipedia's general forum) and the Help Desk. -- MacAddct1984 (talk | contribs) 04:27, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Revision as of 19:36, 25 July 2024 in Syrian Army page
[edit]Can you change it to my latest revisions? Because it is destroyed by vandalism. Many thanks... Martimix (talk) 16:58, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- I reverted previous edits from Syrian Army because they were unsourced. With the new material, they weren't obviously disruptive. If you think they're inappropriate, you're able to revert the edit back to a suitable version. – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 17:19, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

And were "uptown" JC near Journal Square and or the Bergen/Lincoln Park section if you's take some pix? One for Peter Stuyvesant Monument on Sip. And for List of Art Deco architecture in New Jersey#Jersey City the buildings buildings along Bergen Avenue near Bergen Square. 789 (Bergen Theater, later Pix Theater), 830 (Provident Bank Headquarters, now Hudson County), 872 (Independent Order of Odd Fellows, 1920),875, 880 , 885, 910, 911, 918, 920 (Hurwitz Building), 922. Your comment on the edit of "Russians at War"
[edit]Russians at War text is very outdated and poorly structured, so "replacing X with Y" approach would not work. The page was obviously created in a rush, mixing facts, formal descriptions, controversy and reviews in one soup. So I suggested a new edit, in line with other Wiki pages on films (Production, Release, Reception), plus with latest updates about festivals and reviews. I kept all the previous lines and references, just grouped them. So there are no risks in posting this new version: other editors will find their pieces there in relevant sections, or they at least can find a logical place to offer the new edit. If you prohibit this new version, then you keep the old, outdated and messy version that misses a lot of information - what's good in doing that? Please, review this matter. EVS-VR (talk) 18:04, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please note that user EVS-VR has been campaigning for a series of unsourced accolades for the film on the Russians at War talk page, and has very...Russian syntax and grammar when writing in English. Suspected Russian troll account. Stoptheprop (talk) 22:58, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- What a nonsense. How about giving facts and examples of "campaigning" and not making Wikipedia the place of censorship, what should and what shouldn't be mentioned? The last version of the page that I put together includes reviews published in the Western newspapers whereas contributors who object my edits mostly cite pro-Ukrainian sources? If so then who is doing propaganda here, trying to suppress important and relevant facts? EVS-VR (talk) 23:29, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- your history of misleading edits documented here:

- Please take this discussion elsewhere (or better yet just end it) and stop casting aspersions.
- @EVS-VR: if you want, you can change your edit request to un-answered, add your reasoning, and see if another editor wants to tackle it; but I don't have high hopes. -- – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 12:11, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
