Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello AntiVan/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!
I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!
If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.
You might like some of these links and tips:
- some General guidance.
- Tutorial and the Manual of Style.
- Find out how to revert, move and merge pages.
- Sign your posts on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~).
- Add yourself to the New user log and a regional notice board
- Ask questions at the Village pump or Help desk.
- Use the Show preview button
- Provide an Edit summary
- Add the correct image copyright tag to any images you upload
- Take a look at Consensus of standards
- Create a User page
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alf melmac 09:30, 23 November 2005 (UTC).
- Thanks Alf AntiVan 09:33, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, no problem, in the last half ana hour you've already dealt with two pieces of vandalism to articles on my watchlist, you are very welcome :) Alf melmac 09:42, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
Edit comments - vandalism is a strong word
Hi User AntiVan. In an edit to Lists of schools in Australia, you commented "revert vandal 84.152.74.139". While the anon editor's addition of Geelong Grammar was not appropriate because that school will already be under Victorian schools, the edit was not vandalism. The words "vandal" and "vandalism" are very loaded and I feel should only be used when no other word is appropriate. For example, a very new editor maight be testing the functionality - "can I really edit this?" - or, as in this case, breaching a convention that the more experienced know about. In this case it might be that he/she has heard of Geelong Grammar and thinks it should be mentioned in an Australian List of Schools not buried somewhere in a State list, perhaps because it is one of the most prestigious schools in Australia. (Seems to be the case based on the IP address's other edits which you also reverted.) Some of the guidelines mentioned at Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset help with how to deal with other people's edits that you disagree with.
You may wish to advise user's and IPs on their talk pages about why you edited. For vandals and others there are a series of templates that help. See Template talk:Test for usage, though you may already be aware of these as you added a similar notice to at least one IP yesterday evening (my time in Australia).
I would also like to add my welcome and look forward to seeing you around. Regards--A Y Arktos 20:00, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- Hi A Y Arktos, fair comment. I will be more circumspect in future. AntiVan 00:43, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
So far you haven't broken WP:3RR, as your previous revert was more than a day ago. However, do be careful about multiple reversions. Instead, try to get some of the main authors of the article involved in the discussion, and build a solid consensus regarding this addition. There's no doubt that User:Griffinman24 and the anons are one and the same. Unless he can provide a citation showing that his interpretation of the piece is one mentioned by art critics or quoted elsewhere, I'm guessing his POV would (and should) be removed. Your user page
Hello. I was about to revert the vandalism to your user page when I realized it had been like that for three months. Have you looked at your user page in the last three months? Is that intentional on your part? LOL -- I don't know whether to revert or not. SWAdair 07:14, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for caring SWAdair! It does seem a bit lax doesn't it? I have been out of action for a while but I will fix it now. Thanks again. AntiVan 07:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, much better. It stopped me in my tracks when I saw it had been like that for so long. Some users deliberately have "unusual" user pages to make a statement of some kind and I wasn't sure if that was the case here. BTW, thank you for following up on Evolutionary medicine. SWAdair 07:25, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Reprodding articles
I saw you restored the prod tag on Falling Sand Game[1]Check out WP:PROD#Conflicts. If the prod tag comes off, it stays off. That's the nature of uncontested deletion. NickelShoe (Talk) 06:00, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- No worries, thanks for letting me know. AntiVan 07:42, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Reposting of deleted content
If you "reclaim" an article from a site such as answers.com which is no longer on Wikipedia, that probably means that the previous article was deleted, as is the case with Drawball. Please check an article's deletion log for previous deletions under these circumstances. It is not acceptable to simply repost deleted material, especially that which was deleted through a community articles for deletion discussion, and reposted material may be speedily deleted. If you feel the deletion of this article was inappropriate or that enough sources now exist to establish its notability, please request a deletion review instead of just recreating the article. Thanks! Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 06:15, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
DRV listing
You did pretty well for your first time doing it, you had a couple of the details wrong, but no big deal. I am actually not an administrator and can't delete articles, I just tagged it to bring it to an admin's attention. I'll notify the admin that performed the speedy, and the one who closed the AfD, of the discussion. Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 03:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. I have just added to it (some secondary sources). I hope that's allowed. Cheers, AntiVan 03:18, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Of course it's allowed, it's not a vote, you can make as many comments and contributions to the discussion as you like! What you'd want to look for though, are sources that meet the reliability guidelines. The main things to reliability are:
- The source is not anonymous or pseudonymous, and can be traced to a real person or organization who wrote it, not just someone's "screen name". Forum posts generally fail for this reason-anyone could post there, and even if someone claims to give their identity, they could be lying or impersonating, and no one checks or can check.
- The source is editorially controlled, undergoes academic peer review, or otherwise is reviewed by people other than its author for accuracy. Newspapers, magazines, editorially-controlled websites, and comments from critics on anything like these work. Blogs generally don't, unless it can be demonstrated that they are editorially controlled or fact checked. (Some news organizations do maintain blogs like this, but those are more like extensions of the newspaper).
- The source provides non-trivial coverage of the subject in question. In this case, the Drawball site would have to be the main focus (or at least a main focus) of an article which is otherwise reliable, not just be "mentioned in passing". Very short blurbs or briefs are also often trivial.
- Hopefully that's helpful! It is a cool idea, I've killed a bit of time on it myself, but I just can't find a thing that would support an encyclopedia article about it. Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 03:39, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
This was part of a multiple AFD (see the list at the top of the discussion). You can remove the tag, the closing admin evidently didn't. Brianyoumans 15:35, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Roe
Hello, I'm guessing by your edit to John Septimus Roe that you might be a fellow Western Australian. If so, we have been remiss in not welcoming you sooner. Obviously you've been making yourself useful reverting vandalism, so if you're happy carrying on as you are, by all means do so. But if you would like to be more involved in writing and maintained WA-related material, you might like to join up at WP:WA. Hesperian 23:29, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Wiki alf's talk page and policy ignoring IP's
The always uncivil "152" V'd the Pete article again(which you probably already know). An NPA banhammer is pending(I am guessing). I invited Wiki alf to intervene in his best "all-knowing Wiki-way". Which ....you also already know...talk page stalker :). I will be leaving the library soon and Wiki will be at the mercy of belligerent Wiki-trolls of all ilk. Good luck and have a nice day. 156.34.142.110 18:34, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:IAmDaGangstaAlbumCover.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:IAmDaGangstaAlbumCover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Lutheren High School Racine Logo.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Lutheren High School Racine Logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:58, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:IntoDarknessEternalFrostAlbumCover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:IntoDarknessEternalFrostAlbumCover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 20:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Rebecca Hetherington
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Rebecca Hetherington, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- non notable body of work
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Stormbay (talk) 23:57, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
The article Girl Illustrated has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable magazine, unreferenced for over three years
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Kenilworth Terrace (talk) 20:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Better source request for File:IntoTheGraveAlbumCover.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:IntoTheGraveAlbumCover.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:13, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
