Wikipedia Asian Month 2017: Invitation to Participate

[edit]

Hello! Last year, you signed up to participate in Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) 2016 on the English Wikipedia. The event was an international success, with hundreds of editors creating thousands of articles on Asian topics across dozens of different language versions of Wikipedia.

I'd like to invite you to join us for Wikipedia Asian Month 2017, which once again lasts through the month of November. The goal is for users to create new articles on Asian-related content, each at least 3,000 bytes and 300 words in length. Editors who create at least four articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard!

Also be sure to check out the Wikipedia Asian Art Month affiliate event - creating articles on Asian art topics can get you a Metropolitan Museum of Art postcard!

If you're interested, please sign up here for the English Wikipedia. If you are interested in also working on other language editions of Wikipedia, please visit the meta page to see other participating projects. If you have any questions, please visit our talk page.

Thank you!

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:40, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Parkview Library

[edit]

It was not a serious Wikipedia page. Have you quoted reliable sources supporting notability of the library? And I did not delete the page, I proposed to delete it. The page was deleted twice, by different editors. Please check several pages describing libraries. Category:Libraries in South Africa Xx236 (talk) 09:00, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Randburg Library has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not a notable library. Recent news coverage indicating that the library has been the recipient of a donation to install solar power does not constitute significant coverage, and much of the content is either promotional, or is taken from the Johannesburg Libraries websites describing libraries in general, and not this library in particular.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:11, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You updated the {{Old prod}} template with the contest reason: This is part of a WikiProject Libraries campaign to work with libraries and increase the number of notable South African Libraries. I will note that adding a page about the library to Wikipedia does not make the library notable (and therefore does not increase the number of notable SA libraries). The library needs to be notable in order to add it to Wikipedia. I am still not convinced that this library is notable. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:53, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still working to improve this page. The history of this particular library constitute notability. Kindly let's park it in a draft space if you feel it's does not meet notability criterion. Also, we (Wikimedia ZA) are working with librarians to identify notable libraries from this list of South African Libraries. Would be great to work with someone like you on this project. ITN recognition for Mbongeni Ngema

Thoko Mayekiso moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Thoko Mayekiso. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and it barely has any content. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. CycloneYoris talk! 09:59, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some of your work

[edit]

Hello B, thank you for creating Thabo Bester, with a little effort I might be able to get it to good article standard. I have been re-patrolling some of your work randomly since I have stumbled across some of the articles you've created here. If I'm not mistaken you created. You are doing a really good job. However, most of your articles fail to demonstrate notability although there are multiple reliable sources online. Again your work is a product WP:OR. For an example, see Linda Sikhakhane, clearly he's notable but you missed reliable sources to back your statements. This, this, and and this source, just to mention a few, are reliable sources that demonstrate clear WP:SIGCOV of Linda Sikhakhane. Please beware of this when moving forward Thank you. dxneo (talk) 13:04, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dxneo thanks. Please subscribe to the African Wikimedians Mailing list here our Facebook page Wikimedia ZA and apply for sponsorship for South African Wikimedians to join the WikiIndaba conference in Jo'burg. Would be great to have you there meet with other Wikipedians from around Africa and share the good work you are doing as well. Contact me directly at bobby.shabangu@wikimedia.org.za for more info. Hi there @Dl2000, Rebecca Malope is not a discography of Sizwe Zakho but someone who worked with him. I decided to remove that infobox because it was about discography and replace it with a propriate for musician. Please re-check the article and continue to improve it. Wikiproject

Hi, I was told you might know some people that would be interested in a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 17:42, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi yes, I'm one of those people and know others who have interest in this subject, we've even published an academic research paper which you can read about it here. Bobbyshabangu talk 17:56, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was discussing this with Pgallert, I'd love for you guys to be involved in this taskforce (it might be spun off as its own wikiproject), what you advocate for would completely revolutionise African history and tap into knowledge and expertise that is currently ignored and wrongly deprecated. Are you interested in continuing to advocate for this specifically? We just need to iterate on it, I'm convinced people will be won over provided we all agree on common ground regarding the nature of the problem Kowal2701 (talk) 18:03, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject

[edit]

Greetings Mr. Shabangu, I need a little help. I'm currently working on a WikiProject for South African music and to get it approved, I need active and hands-on participants to join. So far, I only came up with this, it's not much because my hands are tied as I cannot work to the fullest since I cannot create categories for a "user space project." With lack of knowledge, I once singlehandedly created a WikiProject for the Weeknd, but after working on it for months it was deleted because it wasn't "formally approved." I have asked the deleting admin to email me remains but they did not reply to request then it got archived. I was gonna use the remains for this project so that I don't have to start afresh, but it is what it is. So I was wondering if you'd help me gather interested participants. I'll be on the lookout for the response. dxneo (talk) 05:40, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sir? You may respond via email. dxneo (talk) 00:27, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there @Dxneo These couple of days I've been bogged down by the WikiIndaba Conference which you can learn about here and here. I've taken a bit of a break from active Wikipedia editing. However, when things die down I shall assist. Bobbyshabangu talk 20:56, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
