Query

[edit]

Hello, Closhund,

You only started editing last month. How did you find your way to WP:ANI so soon after starting to edit? Most new editors don't know about editor conduct noticeboards for a long time after they have been active editing on the project. Do you have multiple accounts? Did you edit with a previous account? Thanks for any insight you can offer. Liz Read! Talk! 03:06, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have an abandoned account in good standing with <50 mostly minor edits that I created as a kid with a username that can link me to other websites. Never sanctioned, and not used for at least 3 years. This account is a WP:NEWSTART.
As for finding WP:ANI, I had been reading it for fun for a while before creating this account. Closhund (talk) 04:28, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Non-diffusing categories

[edit]

So Category:Republic of Ireland men's association footballers etc. are non-diffusing - meaning a player should be in both that and any 'from city' cats. GiantSnowman 17:48, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Then I'm confused. You removed the city category. Why did you revert instead of just adding the category you wanted to add? You agree that Category:Irish footballers should be removed and the other cat I added isn't a subcat of Category:Republic of Ireland men's association footballers. Closhund/talk/ 19:01, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're an admin I just noticed, so I think I have to ping you for you to have a chance of seeing this. @GiantSnowman: I really don't understand what I did wrong here. The change to my edit is that you have removed Category:Association footballers from Waterford (city) and added Category:Republic of Ireland men's association footballers. From what I understand both categories should be there, so my edit of adding the former and removing Category:Irish footballers was good. No? Closhund/talk/ 04:54, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Adding the 'Waterford' category was good (and my error for removing it in my 'undo', apologies) and removing the 'Irish' was good, but not adding the 'Republic' was wrong. GiantSnowman 18:45, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I'll look more carefully for more categories in the future. Closhund/talk/ 04:08, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!
