The Red Maple Leaf Award

Cmm3 is hereby awarded the Red Maple Leaf Award in recognition of his work on Canadian football-related articles. JimV1 (talk) 04:34, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping out and creating all those CFL team uniform pictures. JimV1 (talk) 04:34, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. I only wish you had spelled "colour" in Canadian English but thanks for the nice work on the uni's. DoubleBlue (talk) 18:26, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Love all the CFL uniforms! Been having fun going down memory lane while we wait for CFL season to happen (or not). I notice some graphics are nice and large while others are quite small, and file histories has some removed. Any reason why the images are so small? Any hope of getting the larger ones somehow? Ricky-robie (talk) 14:18, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks @Ricky-robie:, much appreciated. It's been an ongoing battle to keep some of them up due to licencing and copyright issues on Wikipedia. Some images have landed on Wikipedia Commons where larger images and their history can remain while the majority are on English Wikipedia where the max size is 10,000 bytes and histories cannot be retained. Some were also deleted by admins (I had more for the Alouettes, historically). It's the fickle nature of Wikipedia. I'm hoping for a season too, as long as the league can get its act together. Awesome work on the Riders uniforms. However, with their alternates (not their retro week) uniforms, the helmet logo is the "Safeway" S. If you need a copy of that logo to add, let me know. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 09:11, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you talking about the 2009 jerseys? They haven't used the Safeway logo all year; they used either the regular logo or that football-ribbon-wheat logo. Cmm3 (talk) 19:55, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

Thanks for helping out with the roster templates. However, can you also update the corresponding roster navbox (i.e. Template:Edmonton Eskimos roster navbox) so that I don't have to go through and make the same changes you already made in one place. Thanks again!--Giants27(c|s) 13:14, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you reverted some of the edits I had made to the Template. My guess is you were following the Riderville roster as opposed to the CFL transactions page. Unfortunately, trying to follow the roster on the Riderville page, is like trying to use a map of Berlin from 20 years ago, very outdated. Kent Smith was added to the Riders roster on November 6, Vaalyn Jackson and Marcus Thigpen were added to the Active roster shortly there after. It's probably best practice to generally follow the CFL transaction page, as I had emailed the webmaster a few years ago and apparently the roster reflects the wishes of the coaching staff, not the actual roster. The CFL transaction log instead reflects whatever paperwork crosses the CFL head office's "desk" every day. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 21:01, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hamilton

[edit]

If you do any more Grey Cup (or other CFL-related) articles, could you please note that the Canadian city's article is located at Hamilton, Ontario, and not just at the plain title Hamilton? Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 02:23, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated 2012 CFL season, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2012 CFL season. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. 2 says you, says two 23:11, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Shawn Gore has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

At present, the subject's career is non notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stormbay (talk) 04:11, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Foolish Fool! Soon Gore will be signed by the BC Lions and your mad quest for deletion will go unfounded, fufufu... Cmm3 (talk) 05:39, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am certainly not looking for deletion. (I watched Shawn on pre-season with the Packers and he looked talented). The prod indicated a non notable career to date. I believe that assessment is accurate. The BC Lions could use some help...all of that is in the future (crystal ball) and cannot be considered part of a pro career until it occurs. I do look forward to being proven a Foolish Fool! as you so eloquently phrase my actions. Happy editing! --Stormbay (talk) 14:19, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm definitely eloquent, that's for sure, haha. Cmm3 (talk) 19:25, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Saskatchewan Huskies Uniforms

[edit]

Hey nice work on the uniform picture for the Huskies. I'm not sure how you go about pants/jersey combinations for those pictures. But last night the Huskies wore white pants with their away jerseys. So that was an alternate look compared to the season opener in Calgary. Also, last night the Huskies wore their alternate helmet. It was also worn with their retro uniforms at their home opener. Here's a link to the look. I'm not a Photoshop wizard (nor do I own it) so I was hoping you'd be able to add that to the picture. If not, not a big deal. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 01:05, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WHOA, those are some slick helmets, they should wear them all the time. As for how I determine the pants/jersey combinations, I go by what the majority look is. For example, last year, the huskies wore their white jerseys with black pants three times and with white pants one time. Thus, I depicted the look as white on black. Do you know if they're wearing their retro uniforms again this season? If not, I may as well update it now. Cmm3 (talk) 05:07, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, those lids should've been dumped in the ditch on the way back from Regina. Their two blowouts this year were both wearing those lids. From what I hear, they will be mothballed until possibly the playoffs. Next home game, they will wear their blacks. I imagine they will wear their regular home uniforms the rest of the regular season. As for pants, I'm not entirely sure what the plans are. We'll see if they go all white again or not. I'm heading to the game in Edmonton, so I will let you know. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 01:02, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, that and they look like a knock off of the New York Jets. And thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Cmm3 (talk) 02:22, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:CIS_UofS_Jersey.png

[edit]

I agree that the reduced version of the image File:CIS_UofS_Jersey.png does not have much clarity, but this image must be rescaled to meet WP:NFCC. If the current version does not look good, can you please upload a better image whose size does not exceed 350 pixels for both width and height. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:01, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're going to have to help me understand this, because I don't see a difference: How can this file be allowed to stand, thumb, and the file I created be reduced to a minuscule 350 pixels? They both use the same licensing. And where in the WP:NFCC does it say 350 pixels? This completely defeats the purpose of being able to see the intricacies of the jersey.
I agree to the point that rescaling the image is impossible without compromising the image quality. However, we can convert the image to SVG format and keep the clarity intact. I have recommended converting both the images to SVG.
The second image will also not stand as per WP:NFCC. It has to be rescaled too. The guidelines does not say 350, it was my recommendation for this image in particular to meet the standards. 350 does not hold good for the second image; it has to be at least 450 to keep it any useful. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:44, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Acalamari 18:51, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks. Cmm3 (talk) 03:09, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you had asked to create a page and remove the redirect from this page to the U of R's page. I received permission finally yesterday to move that to the main page. Since you did all the work, I figured I'd let you create the page from the draft you had created (instead of simply copying and pasting it from your draft). Shootmaster 44 (talk) 01:23, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Say what? The page, Regina Rams, is still "currently protected and can be edited only by administrators." If you are able to alter this page, then go for it... the guys running this place don't seem to give a damn, and I'm pretty sure the same "Guy" you spoke with has still done absolutely nothing. Thanks for trying, though. Cmm3 (talk) 21:28, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are right. Looks like I misread the Rams' talk page. However, I did get a flippant though go ahead from "Guy," seems he is British and assumes all college sports are the same as they are in England. But, I just asked for the page protection to be removed on their page. However, I guess that Admin doesn't need to do it. If that Admin fails to do so, I will ask at the Admin board. I don't even know what the issue was that led to the page protection. I guess if nothing is done, you could always add the info to the Cougars page. A bit of a pain to change the links to that page from simply Regina Rams, but it can be done. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 22:10, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into this.. it just bugs me that Regina is the only CIS football team without a page and it's been a painful process to try to reverse it. The guy probably only has to push a button, but he's being... unpleasant about it. I considered the Cougar thing, but the Regina Ram redirect would still go back to the UofR page. Cmm3 (talk) 22:34, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot to add in logo licence, thanks for the reminder. Cmm3 (talk) 05:03, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to add the bowl games to the infobox. When I put the info into the infobox on Saskatchewan Huskies football the Churchill and Atlantic Bowls worked and the Mitchell and Utecks didn't. Any idea how to fix this? Shootmaster 44 (talk) 19:58, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, so I don't bugger it up further, perhaps adding in the Canadian Bowl for the Regina Rams and Western Mustangs would be good too Shootmaster 44 (talk) 19:59, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Got it - you had "if#" for those two instead of "#if." Took me a while to notice it, haha. Cmm3 (talk) 20:28, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you made some edits to the navbox. I have no idea where the CFL got that roster from. None of the transactions have been mentioned on http://cfl.ca/page/transactions-august-2011. I tend to use that as the official guide since I was told a few years ago that Riderville's roster is shown how the coaching staff wants the public to see it, not necessarily how it is. Case in point, today Montez Murphy was actually released by the Riders, but he is shown on the Practice Roster on CFL.ca/Riderville.com's rosters. It also doesn't have Tyree Burks or Shawn Lemon listed even though both players were added to the Riders' roster today. Sometimes I think the Riders/CFL need someone to transcribe the transaction log into the roster, it is always a mess. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 01:37, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see, I see. The only real reason I updated it was to fix the wrap after Robinson. I probably should have waited until the depth chart was released today. Oh well, I'll keep that in mind. Cmm3 (talk) 18:50, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Saskatchewan Huskies Jerseys

[edit]

I am not a Photoshop wizard, but you certainly seem to be. I just figured if you are planning to create 2011 CIS jersey pictures again, I'd give you a head start on the U of S Huskies. Last night, they played their pre-season game and wore their white jerseys and lids (Flickr Stream) with a Centennial patch on it. Next week at home they plan to wear a Salute to the Troops jersey with special helmets and looks to be paired with white pants. They will wear their regular greens on September 9, their retros on September 30 and their blacks on October 14. I would gather the camo jersey won't feature the Centennial patch, but the others will. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 04:39, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A camouflage jersey?? Ugh, that one's gonna be a pain to do... where does UofS get all the money to this?? And for the record, I'm not a talented photoshop guy, I just use MS Paint. Nobody compliments me and gets away with it, haha. I'll have to work on it tomorrow because I'm busy today, but it'll get done. Cmm3 (talk) 19:03, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, that sounds even more complicated on MS Paint. David Dube is the money behind the all these things, he loves Huskie football. Thanks for doing all this, you are doing awesome work. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 23:18, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I really appreciate that. Enjoy the games! Cmm3 (talk) 00:30, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Other CIS jerseys

[edit]

Watching the Laval/Montreal game on SRC right now and the Rouge et Or are wearing black jerseys with black pants. They have new uniforms altogether home, road (better pic of roads) and the blacks. I will try to find you a picture of the blacks once the game is over.

Also, the Regina Rams were wearing alternate lids last night. From what I can tell it looks like the jerseys were the same. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 20:11, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm not too sure when I'll ever do uniforms for other CIS teams, I mainly just stuck to Canada West and some OUA. It's the script above the numbers that's always the most difficult (Queen's was a nightmare). Looks like UBC is wearing totally new uniforms this season. If you happen to know a good source for pics, let me know; I can't find a whole lot out there. Cmm3 (talk) 18:11, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I can imagine the script is a problem. The only place I can find good CIS pics are at Huskieoutsider.com and they only have pics from Huskies games. Some of the team sites are good, some stink. I still haven't been able to track down a black Laval pic. But I now realize you had never created Laval jerseys so it isn't a big deal. Another place that is good at times is www.cisfootball.org, perhaps you post under a different name there, but it is probably the best CIS site out there as far as message boards go. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:53, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There's a pic on the CIS website, but it's not a full shot, so it wouldn't be good enough anyway. And what is the deal with the cisfootball.org forums anyway? Every time I try to go and register, it says that registration has been disabled by the administrator. Because I agree, that forum is a good resource. Cmm3 (talk) 03:14, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize .org was still banning registrations. There was a major bot infestation so CJ shut the doors. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 23:25, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Oh well. Cmm3 (talk) 23:28, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just an FYI, if you are interested CJ has opened the doors today only on .org. So if you are interested, you can register today. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 17:21, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Thanks Shootmaster. Cmm3 (talk) 20:36, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You Must Hate The Huskies By Now

[edit]

Forgot to mention this, this weekend, looks like the Saskatchewan Huskies wore yet another uniform variation Friday night. As you can see here they wore their retro uniforms with a different lid. Instead of any logos, it simply featured uniform numbers. My guess is that over the next few years, the Huskies will cycle through different lids as seen on this shirt for Homecoming. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 03:36, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hahahaha, well, at least this one was an easy one. I'm glad you're on top of these things, usually the CIS proves extremely difficult for finding recent game pictures. Cmm3 (talk) 04:14, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You will really hate the Huskies now. They are turning into the Oregon Ducks. They've added two more uniforms for this upcoming season here. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 21:35, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh. Well, I'll see what they look like on a player and then I'll roll out the 2012 set. Thanks. Cmm3 (talk) 03:21, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Here is the green uniform as they were worn during the non-conference game against Guelph Gryphons. I assume the whites will be worn in two weeks in Manitoba. Friday night, they are wearing their camo unis. I really appreciate all your work on these. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 00:44, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. In Andrew Harris (Canadian football), you recently added a link to the disambiguation page Junior football (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Helmets images are replaceable

[edit]

The helmet images are replaceable with free versions, there is no need to use a copyright helmet template image when a free picture of one can be taken at any game or by anyone who owns one of the helmets (a player for example) and a FUR made for the logo part. Alternatively the team could be asked to supply one. (see Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2011 December 11#File:LSU Helmet.png). In some cases the teams logo is not copyright in which case there is no need for the FUR at all. Mtking (edits) 02:01, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I respectfully disagree with your assertion that these could be replaced. There are 26 teams playing football in the CIS so taking pictures of these helmets is not feasible. Nor is asking current or former players to take pictures of their helmets so that they can be posted for use on Wikipedia. Asking each of the 26 teams to supply an image is also unreasonable, that would take an immense amount of time to get all 26, even if one were able to do so. The owner of the images has stated that they may be used for non-commerical purposes Helmet Project. Consequently, there are no replacements for these helmets. Cmm3 (talk) 02:17, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point that it might not be easily replaced, the point with WP:NFCC#1 is it says "is available, or could be created" and as a free one can be created in a number of ways the use of the copyright helmet template image fails the WP:NFCC. Mtking (edits) 02:36, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't get it, is this for all football helmets, professional and college? Why is this being brought to light now when many of these football helmets have been around for years on Wikipedia? Cmm3 (talk) 02:52, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It covers anything copied from one of the three main sources of the helmets (nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/, www.sportslogos.net or www.mghelmets.com) as none of them licence the use of the template in a WP compatible way, User:cmadler did e-mail them and ask for them to licence it but did not receive a reply. As for why it has only come to light now, I don't know, just no one noticed what was going on and realised the issue.
File:WVUhelmet.png is an example of a file that is fine and in it's case no FUR needs to be made at all as the "WV" logo is not copyrightable anyway. Mtking (edits) 03:04, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For the new title of Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey

[edit]

Bonsoir, see this discussion [1] on the american page of National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship, maybe your opinion, thanks --Cordialement féministe ♀ Cordially feminist Geneviève (talk) 03:07, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geneviève, that page started the same way - it used to be solely for a list of championships (the league winner, not actual league play as is seen in European leagues). Eventually, it grew to describe the actual league. As such, I think moving Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey championship to Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey is completely justified. A separate page should be used for the championship round itself. Cmm3 (talk) 03:18, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oui bonsoir CMN3, il ny a aucun probleme pour moi... oupsss sorry I write in french. Yes all is right for your change in canadian page. But what think of you of the American page ??? National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship versus National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey ....I had many quarrels with this User:LtPowers. See the discussion oh my dear poor english [2] on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's sport. I don't know if we have to meler of the American page. It does not seem to please LtPowers (it is probably an American fan hockey which considers an great expert of women ice hockey... (ooooo))--Cordialement féministe ♀ Cordially feminist Geneviève (talk) 03:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh, je suis désolé, je n'ai pas compris, mais maintenant je sais. Hm, I think my french is much worse than your english, haha. And sorry, I thought you were suggesting that my move was only my opinion. With regards to your dispute with Powers, I think that it should be called National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey. I'm not very interested in American sports though, only Canadian, but I'll share my opinion on the talk page. Cmm3 (talk) 03:47, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes my French language is better but it isn't my first language (it's the Hebrew ) but as I was born in Quebec then I made all my schooling in French language. Yes I includes your opinion. I am sorry to have disturbed you. Ithank you for what you bring to the pages of Canadian sports. I hope to meet you again on sporting pages. To reply to your last comment on the TFD. The NHL and NBA don't duplicate their season list. See Template:Calgary Flames and Template:Toronto Raptors for your examples. 117Avenue (talk) 05:22, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you're saying. I was using them as an example as to why the seasons templates shouldn't be deleted. Again, I don't mind deleting the seasons sections from the main templates - that I can agree with. But getting rid of them entirely is something I can't. Cmm3 (talk) 19:00, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have done a wonderful job updating the CFL wikis.

Note - I believe that the CFL has changed its player profile page numbers, so all the wiki players (Playing Stats at CFL.ca) are linked to the wrong CFL players.

Orphaned non-free media (File:CFL EDM Jersey Combinations.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CFL EDM Jersey Combinations.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. The article Marcel Desjardins has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. -- Patchy1 06:10, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:CFL MTL Jersey 1983.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CFL MTL Jersey 1983.png. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:16, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you drew this file, and want to release it under a free license, just let me know, and I will undelete it for you. The logo and colors are not copyrightable by the team, so you would own the coypright. If I'm too slow responding, you can ask at WP:REFUND. Magog the Ogre (tc) 18:23, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateData is here

[edit]

Hey Cmm3

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Montreal Alouettes all-time records and statistics, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page George Dixon (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:CIS UofS Jersey.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CIS UofS Jersey.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:26, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you add the latest archived version of the player's bio to the external links instead of deleting it. Like I did here, I added archived and added wayback links to all of the cfl pages because they turn into dead links. The Roughriders one on Picard has tons of info and the Blue Bombers one doesn't have any. I just did the same thing to Tristan Black since his Roughriders bio is a dead link now. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of 104th Grey Cup, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://ijkm.nl/103rd_Grey_Cup.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello. A tag has been placed on File:McGill Redmen Helmet Logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. CFL Player InfoBox - Years on team protocol

[edit]

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but what is the protocol for a player being on a team in their infobox? For example Jovon Johnson was obviously on the Alouettes for the 2016 season, but how far along in the preseason activities does a player have to make it before they are considered "2016–2017 Montreal Alouettes"?? This question only really applies to players who are entering into their 2nd or more season with the team, as players who just joined and are cut in the same off-season get the designation "* Offseason and/or practice squad member only". Hope that is clear, looking forward to having some clarification on this subject!!

Good question! I don't know if I have had to do it before. I think it's important that Johnson's 2017 tenure with the Als is noted, but usually that's for regular season. Since the "*" is used for off-season, not pre-season, it's probably fien the way it is. Cmm3 (talk) 01:39, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Renegades and Rough Riders have their own pages. Should we just have Redblacks-only statistics on the Redblacks page? Thanks. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 20:00, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I remember reading somewhere that the Redblacks assumed the history of all Ottawa franchises, so I included all figures for them. I was trying to find a reference, but I think it was in one of the Game Notes for a game this season. I'll try to find it and include a link. Also, since it's a four year-old franchise otherwise, the list would be pretty short and unimpressive (similar to the Renegades, I suppose). What do you think? Cmm3 (talk) 20:04, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, I guess someone else is changing it without discussion. I'll try to find those references. Cmm3 (talk) 20:23, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It also says there's a citation needed for that; can't say that's concrete evidence. But I agree, you would think they would mention it more clearly somewhere. From what I can find so far: Under the 2017 CFL Facts, Figures and Records, [3], page 155, note 5: "For historical record purposes, the Ottawa Football Clubs are considered to be a single entity with two intervals of non-participation (1997-2001 & 2006-2013). Ottawa have been known as: Ottawa Football Club 1876 to 1898, Ottawa Rough Riders 1899 to 1925, Ottawa Senators 1926 to 1930, Ottawa Rough Riders 1931 to 1996, Ottawa Renegades (2002 to 2005). The current member of the CFL is the Ottawa Redblacks (2014-present)." Cmm3 (talk) 20:59, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think the CFL used to consider the Redblacks a separate entity? Is this something they changed recently? WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 21:03, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I only started seeing it in these Facts, Figures, and Records guides. Those were only made available online in PDF form starting in 2016. It said something similar: "5. For Canadian Football historical record purposes and in accordance with the club's wishes, the Ottawa Football Clubs are considered to be a single entity under various ownerships with two intervals of non-participation (1997-2001 & 2006-2013). Ottawa clubs have been known as follows: Ottawa Football Club 1876 to 1898, Ottawa Rough Riders 1989 to 1925, Ottawa Senators 1926 to 1930, and Ottawa Rough Riders 1931 to 1996. Football in Ottawa was revived in 2002 with the team known a the Renegades (2002 to 2005). The most recent club to play in Ottawa and a current member of the CFL is the Ottawa Redblacks (2014-present)" I'm guessing they wanted to enjoy "franchise firsts" in their beginning years so they could hype things up, while in actuality, it was a continuation of the Ottawa Franchises. The Ottawa Redblacks Media Guide also has the records of those three franchises included as one entity (p. 166). Cmm3 (talk) 21:12, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the Redblacks page. Thoughts? WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 21:19, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I like it, I think it's a good start in the right direction. I just wish the league and the Redblacks didn't have to be so cryptic about it. Cmm3 (talk) 21:22, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I also wonder how official them being one entity is. Were there any deals or agreements made like with the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, (from the Hornets page: "At a press conference regarding the change, team officials also announced that as part of a deal with the NBA and the Pelicans, the renamed Hornets reclaimed the history and records of the 1988–2002 Hornets") Or is the CFL just "considering" them one entity without any official agreements? WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 21:30, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It looks pretty official, but I wonder to what extent. Does Ottawa Football Club = Ottawa Redblacks, or are those actually separate? Unfortunately, with the changes to cfl.ca, it looks like a lot of the information and resources have been dumbed down. Cmm3 (talk) 21:57, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pal, it is starting to become quite clear to me that you somehow determined what I was doing, and in an act of exquisitely bad faith, you tried to interrupt my good faith contribution to wikipedia, and then indirectly threatened me with deletion of my contribution, one that I gave upward of 2 hours of my time to create.

Make no mistake, you tried to beat me to the punch, creating the article while I previewed mine about a dozen times before I saved the changes. And your poorly thrown together attempt gives me added evidence that you were just trying to screw me.

I thought wikipedia has rules against guys like you and the stuff you do!

1000 yard rushers

[edit]

you say, perhaps to belittle me, that i 'inexplicably' want all 1000 rushers to be listed. oh, come on, if you know as much about football as your posts, then you know that rushing for a 1000 yards has been a grail for all running backs since beattie feathers first and amazingly achieved the feat. recall poor dave hampton of the falcons rushing for a 1000 and then losing it on the next play. and in the cfl it is rarer than in the nfl. being pass happy there are loads of 1000 yard receivers, but there have also been modern seasons where the league didn't have one player break the barrier. and you say it can be found in the record book, as if that is easily found by most average cfl fans with online searching skills. the stats on wikipedia were the only online source for the longest while before the record book could even be found. it is useful info for cfl fans, made easily accessible on wikipedia.

but, if your main point is that it doesn't look right, that is unlike other stats on the wiki pages, i say ... oh, really, this is wikipedia, the biggest data dump in the history of the net. or let me quote ralph waldo emerson in this instance 'A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.' try to have an open, and bigger, mind.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:21, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RonBot (talk) 17:02, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is or Are

[edit]

You can use "is." It is used in other team articles without problem. It is fine grammatically. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 05:23, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Fishhead2100:, what other team articles? Every other CFL team uses "are" and other professional sports teams use "are". "The Saskatchewan Roughriders is going to the playoffs" isn't right at all. "The Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club is going to the playoffs" would be correct. I think this is better for the Talk Page if you're going to make a change. Cmm3 (talk) 11:34, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're assuming all sports team articles use "are." It didn't take me that long to find another. Why are you focused on just CFL? There are other leagues. Go look through NFL team articles. You'll find one. Using "is" in the intro is fine. It all depends on what you are using "is" and "are" for. Again, the intro is fine for "is." Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 19:03, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

CFL Games Started Statistic

[edit]

Good day Cmm3, the reason I removed the Games Started coloumn from Brandon Bridge 's page was because I have not been able to find a reliable source for games started. I was wondering if you could let me know where you are verifying your data from?

@CFLNFL: Ah of course! If you go to cfl.ca, hover over the STATS button and look for 2018 STATISTICS. Click on that and you will find detailed statistics for all weeks up to the most recent one. I believe it gets updated every Wednesday or so. I'm not sure if it updates for playoffs, but everything up to week 21 is there. Historically, the most recent CFL Guide and Record Book (league published) will have starts recorded for all active players.Cmm3 (talk) 15:12, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Atlantic Football League Logo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notice

The article Jadon Wagner has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I found a blurb saying he got hurt in pre-season and never ended up playing in the CFL. Non-notable college athlete, fails WP:GNG, WP:GRIDIRON

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SportingFlyer T·C 21:24, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense, I made this before I knew about notability guidelines. If he never played a regular season game, the article should be deleted. Thanks, Cmm3 (talk) 22:41, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Jadon Wagner for deletion

[edit]
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Jadon Wagner is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jadon Wagner until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

What's so special about 2022?

[edit]

Don't know why you want to put the 2022 team season article infoboxes out-of-sync, with the previous season team articles. But, do what you want, as I'm not going to edit war over it. GoodDay (talk) 01:55, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing special about it. It's an available field for the infobox, so I used it. Just because it hasn't been used in the past, doesn't mean we can't use it now. I had also added in Most Outstanding nominees for 2021, but I'm not adding it for all previous seasons yet because that's a tonne of work. Season-by-season articles are already out of sync and are being improved upon each year. 2005 BC Lions season is a lot different from 2021 BC Lions season, for example. I'm going to add information for 2022 as I find it; may not match 2021. Cmm3 (talk) 02:01, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @ParkerLyme:, it looks perfect to me - I'm not sure what you think you're missing. If you think the column should be wider for the score, it's because both teams played in overtime last year, which stretches that column. Thanks, Cmm3 (talk) 12:38, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

How do you determine between games played or dressed? I've noticed that some of the CFL stats sites like StatsCrew and Pro Football Archives seem to be including games players dressed for under the "Games Played" column. One example, I doubt Bryan Scott actually played in 18 games for the Argos in 2023. I suspect he was probably just active as the 3rd-string QB. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 00:59, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @WikiOriginal-9:, I get it straight from the CFL Guide Book that gets posted at the start of each season. I don’t like using cfl.ca since I find it unreliable, but usually they’ll post weekly stats in-season too. The CFL counts “games dressed” as games played. Cmm3 (talk) 01:23, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok cool, I see the CFL Guide Book has "GP 18" for Bryan Scott. Thanks. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 01:41, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
