Rubik's Cube (contradiction)

We don't tend to block people for making a single mild attack, let alone for a few months. From what I can see this is a misunderstanding, he made a mistake and left a talk page message on your user page rather than your talk page, please try and assume good faith. Regarding the attack itself I have left a note on his talk page (a) asking him to use talk pages and (b) Showing where I think the root of this is (you reverting some IP edits to his user page) and asking him also to observe civility and assume good faith. WP:OWN should tell you a bit about ownership of your user page, and as such we don't generally protect user pages for any length of time. At times it can be protected, but since this seems to have been a one off and on the face of it a mistake I'm not going to just now. You also need to know it cannot be protected so only you can edit it, protection stops everyone (including you) but admins, or stops new accounts and anonymous users. If you feel you need to request protecion please see WP:RFPP, although you are welcome to ask me on my talk page you'll generally get a faster response from there since I'm not around constantly. --pgk^(talk) 16:30, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Nelvana article

I saw your note to the [collaboration/Nelvana] that you are planning on bring the article up to featured status after a peer review you are planning for this weekend. I'll try what I can do to help, though the timing is bad for me with summer starting (especially the first weekend of summer). I ought to be able to do some copyediting at the least and I have copies of early Nelvana shows/specials that I can take screen-shots of and post under the [[1]] provisions.

Some fairly obvious (to me) things that could be added to the existing article: - putting the shows into chronological/alpha rather than just alpha order - answer the question from the first para: is Nelvana still a working company or are all new animations done under the Corus name? - there's nothing that says why Nelvana is a *significant* studio; you and I know it is but it's not really stated in the article, other than just the implication that they produce loads of stuff - more background on how they went about producing their animated shows; somewhere I have a documentary dating to the time they did The Devil and Daniel Mouse that talks about it

Editing

I have been working with some radio articles and can not figure out how to make edits to the "market chart" at the bottom. If you could look at the article I just re-wrote and expanded, KPTL, and scroll to the bottom you will see the chart I am speaking of. I am at a loss on how to change it. Any help is appreciated! Edit summary

It is true that I often don't fill in my edit summary on wikipedia - my defence for this is that I often make many dozens of small changes to articles at a time (eg. adding appropriate categories, making release dates confirm with IMDB, fixing mis-spellings in film titles, etc) and that filling in the edit summary for each change would significantly lessen my output because quite frankly I don't always know the abbreviation for the wikipedia link that would justify what I do. I'd have to spend a lot of time looking for it, when the edits which I make are often really, really obvious. The thing is, it would take far less time for somebody who knows what they are doing (there's almost always one watching every article) to check and confirm my edit (which they would do regardless of whether I put anything in the edit summary or not, because they are rightfully suspicious of ANY edits made to articles that they watch) than it does for me to adequately fill it in each time. Thus, were I to fill it in each time, it would waste more collective time than if I did not and therefore slow down the overall process.

Having said that, I DO add edit summaries for the edits which I feel are controversial, or where I think another editor may be misinformed (in which case I have to explain what I did so that they do not revert it). For the cases where I do not, I'd like to have my good edit history speak for itself. Perhaps that needs to be emphasized, because it is an important point.

I should mention that if you look at almost any wikipedia history page, most of the edits have no explanation given. There's a good reason for this - although it IS official wikipedia policy, it is also in most cases a waste of time, for the reasons which I have outlined above (there's nearly always someone checking the edits you made anyway, and edit summaries are helpful only in those cases where it's not clear what you were trying to accomplish with your edit).

Example: If I'm going to add films to this list, I'm not going to put anything in my edit summary. There'll be someone checking it regardless, and it's pretty obvious that I'm just adding in some films. On the other hand, if I change an existing entry, I may have to give an explanation (such as: "Latin America is not a country"). If I were forced to write in an edit summary every time, as official wiki policy suggests, this list would take 5-10 times longer to complete.

Therefore, I'm using WP:Ignore all rules here, because I feel that this rule unnecessarily slows down the process of contributing to wikipedia. I have no pretensions or want of adminship, so I see no need to follow it - I only want to expand wikipedia's entries. As I see it, although I am not rigidly following the rule, I am following the SPIRIT of the rule, because the rule was created for controversial edits (which I DO add summaries for, or at least try to). If I were to follow the rule to the letter, it would hinder my ability to contribute to wikipedia and at the same time would not help other editors enough to offset that.

Not sure if this is deliberate or not, but the peer review request that you set in motion is not complete. I am not sure what you are proposing by the Wikipedia:WikiProject Nelvana; do you mean setting up a specific project to cover off all such Nelvana releases? If you set one up I'll certainly be able to make some contributions to it. Am not a huge animation fan, but I have fond memories of the studio's early productions and can make some contributions.

Your comments on my edit to gas lift chairs

Most of the content on the gas lift chairs page was rubish. The whole story of Kylie-ree Dean coming up with the idea while staring out the window looking at a forklift truck and then disapearing off to Switzerland with her royalties appears to be made up - it was unreferenced and a google search of her name reveals only the wikipedia story. I carried out a search on the European Patent Office's site, and identified the true inventor, and then updated the wikipedia page. The link I added was not to some commercial site or my own web page, it was to the record of the original patent on the European Patent Office's free online service Esp@cenet. Please do a little more research in future before undoing edits - you have replaced fact with fiction, and offended me with your comments. --82.68.212.174 19:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Folks will quickly pick up on these at WP:RFA and knock a few points off. Most editors that create junky articles create just one so there's no need to kick sand in their face as well. Caribbean stubs

Not sure the idea will fly - the have pretty solid standards for new stubs, some minimum number of articles. I would suggest that you withdraw the proposal temporarily and we can figure out how many articles there might be in each group. Also, talk to User:Grutness - he's a master-stubber and quite sympathetic to Caribbean issues. I would be happy to work with you on making a case for different classes of stubs - I suspect that Lesser Antilles or Leewards and Windwards would be more likely to meet their threshold. Care_Bears

I am interested in assisting you with maintaining Care_Bears and any of its subarticles (such as Care Bears Family Storybook (tv series), movies, and episodes).

I absolutely loved the Care Bears when they were broadcasted. I look at the garbage on TV now and think about how TV used to be so much better. I believe the Care Bears is the best thing to happen for youngsters and I would love to participate in maintaining a one-shop-stop information center, one that educates those who know nothing about them.

If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential! What's New? In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs. To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. There was a case of vandalism on ABBA page, but I can't revert to the page that contains the unblemished information. The page I want to revert to, for whatever reason, is cut when the page is saved and almost half of it is missing .

Gregorian chant

Thanks for cleaning up the talk page for Gregorian chant. Some of the talk page topics are still "live," however. Also, since Gregorian chant is on the main page today, many people are making "corrections" that aren't factually correct or going against hard-won consensus, and I've been referring them to the talk page so they can see the rationale for the consensus. Could you de-archive it a bit, maybe archiving only through July 2006? I'd really appreciate it! (I'd do it myself, but I haven't learned how to archive yet.) Peirigill 19:24, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
