edit

Abdul Majid Wani began his political career as an independent candidate, winning his first election in 2002 by defeating Khalid Najib Suharwardy of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He later joined the Indian National Congress and was re-elected in 2008. During his tenure, he served as Minister of State in coalition governments led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.[3]

In the 2014 assembly elections, Wani lost to Shakti Raj Parihar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking the BJP's first victory in the Doda constituency. Despite the loss, he remained an active political figure. In 2024, he contested elections as a candidate of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).[4]
