Life and career

edit

ElyOtto was born in 2004, and raised in Calgary, Alberta.[3][4] In 2020, ElyOtto started a musical career, creating and uploading songs to SoundCloud.[5] Their debut single "SugarCrash!" was released in August 2020, followed by the single "Teeth!".[4] "SugarCrash!" went viral on TikTok after ElyOtto posted a video using the song to the platform a week after its release. In 2021, more than 5 million videos have been created using the song. It reached 85 million Spotify listens and a No. 1 spot on the streaming juggernaut’s U.S. Viral 50 playlist in February.[6]

Due to the success of the "SugarCrash!", they secured a contract with RCA Records.[7]

Their debut EP was due for release later in 2022.[4] In April 2021, a remix of "SugarCrash!" featuring Kim Petras and Curtis Waters was released.[8] Their single "Profane" was released in August 2021,[5] followed by the single "Stalker" also released in 2021.[9]

In April 2022, ElyOtto released their debut album Hellscape Suburbia.[10][11][12]

In July 2023, ElyOtto released their second album Miscarriage of a Wildhorse, and they followed up shortly with an EP, Happy Together at the Convenience Stores.[13]

They have 1.6 million Spotify monthly listeners, and “SugarCrash!” stands at 350 million streams. They also continue to release eclectic singles on SoundCloud.[13]
