English: Thambiraan Vanakkam cover page; First book printed in Tamil Nadu, India. The book was published by the Portuguese Jesuit priest Henrique Henriques in October 20, 1578 at Kollam, Kerala. It is a book on Christianity (a translation of "Doctrina Christam" from Portuguese). The first 8 pages of the 16 page book was printed using types prepared in Kollam (in 1577). The rest of the pages were printed using corrected types manufactured the next year. This book is in the University of Harvard library. "Lingua Malabar Tamul" is how Tamil was known to the Portuguese.
தமிழ்: இந்திய மொழிகளில் முதன்முதலாக அச்சான நூல் (அத்தோபர் 20,1578-ல் ) தம்பிரான் வணக்கம் ஆகும். அச்சிட்ட இடம் கொல்லம், கேரள மாநிலம் ஆகும். இது தமிழில் அமைந்த கிறித்துவ நூல் ஆகும். இது டாக்ட்ரினா கிரிஸ்டம் என்ற போர்த்தூகீசிய மொழி நூலின் தமிழாக்கம். இந்நூலைப் பதிப்பித்தவர் என்றிக்கோஎன்றீசு 1520-1598 ஆவார்.இவர் போர்த்துக்கல் நாட்டு பாதிரியார். இந்நூலின் பிரதியொன்று, ஆர்வர்டு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் காட்சிக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
