Trivia Section Correction

edit

There is a mistake regarding Carl Erskine.

Allow me to cite a forgotten poem:

"Turn back the hands of time, Oh where, oh where was Clem Labine, Give me the lead that once was mine, Let's do it all over again."

The poem was about Bobby Thompson's "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" from the Brooklyn Dodger perspective, in that Clem Labine (not Carl Erskine) was warming up in the Dodger bullpen with the ill-fated Ralph Branca. There was only enough space for two pitchers to warm-up within the cramped confines of Ebbets Field. Given that Clem was "bouncing his curve" according to the (soon to be fired) Brooklyn pitching coach, Ralph Branca got the call. Thus Carl Erskine wasn't warming up in the pen, but probably watching the game from there (which was customary).

The Clem Labine doggerel is a riff on a song Eddie Fisher popularized in 1951, Turn Back the Hands of Time, not the song Tyrone Davis sang, which is a different song with the same name.Iss246 (talk) 16:32, 16 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

@InternetArchiveBot I have some suggestions on the Carl Erskine article. He is still living & very well known in Anderson IN. I just caught the tail end of a local PBS story on him. This article needs to mention his high school (& graduation date) and more of his charitable work. He is the last living member of the Boys of Summer group of Dodgers, according to TV program. The editors just need to contact the Anderson public library to find these facts, ot to give further info. look for the TV program. 50.102.23.36 (talk) 20:28, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
