editAnd we all know that the line "he does enjoy an occasional pint of Guinness" is very encylopedic...--HisSpaceResearch 14:52, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah - this article is completely out of proportion. You'd think Cunla had sold tens of millions of albums. Klingklang 00:52, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Possibly biased statements?
editThe second and third sentences of the second paragraph concern me:
He owns an unspoilt local pub, the East End Arms, [1] located between Lymington and Beaulieu. Wisely the daily operation of the pub and restaurant is in the hands of Joanna Dydak...
Without some citations, I'd prefer that the words "unspoilt" and "wisely" were removed. "Unspoilt" sounds like an advertisement, and "wisely" implies that he's an unreliable person, which is nowhere else substantiated or even stated. --Dan Griscom (talk) 17:04, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with you over the use of "wisely" and have removed it, but the reviewer of the 50 Best Pubs cited in the article [1] calls the pub an "unspoilt boozer". -Secondarywaltz (talk) 02:43, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Photo?
editCan't we use the photo from the Dire Straits band page until there's another usable one? It really shows John much more than any other member... besides, he played most of his musical career with Dire Straits, it's what he is "known" for.. --leahtwosaints (talk) 15:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yes we can! - Secondarywaltz (talk) 16:17, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Infobox/Instruments: should we add guitar (and vocals) ?
editI think it could be relevant to add the guitar, and to some extent vocals too, to the list of his instruments, since he's used them for most of his solo records. I ask the question because it is required to have a consensus according to the section. --21stCenturySloth (talk) 13:31, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Concur. He's a very good lead and rhythm guitarist, plays both on his solo records, and is on Youtube with them in multiple official videos. He was always credited for vocals on Dire Straits' albums, and does many of if not all of his own vocals. Mzmadmike (talk) 05:22, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- Links to WP articles about his solo albums credit him as lead guitar and vocals. Therefore, I don't see what discussion there is. He's professionally identified as such and documented. Adding now.Mzmadmike (talk) 05:25, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Years Active
editThe infobox says years active started 1966 (he would have been 17 or so).
That's OK, but where's the information to back this up? The article says nothing about him playing music prior to the formation of Dire Straits in 1977.
