Article title

edit

Apparently this article was created at Demonstration in January 2003, then moved to Peaceful demonstration in August 2006, and from there to 'Demonstration (people)' the same day because "a number of these demonstrations were violent".

The problem, as I see it, is that Demonstration (teaching), Demonstration (acting), Demonstration (military), etc. are all things that people do. In other words, (people) doesn't suggest what sort of demonstration this page treats. Something like Demonstration (protest) or Demonstration (political) would be much more informative. Hearing no objections, I moved the page to Demonstration (protest). Cnilep (talk) 05:02, 21 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Change article title to "Demonstration (political)" to match scope

edit

The name of this article was changed to "Demonstration (protest)" in 2013. However, its scope clearly encompassed advocacy for positive things, which is different from protesting against negative things. A political rally for a candidate would be a case in point. I propose that the article name be changed to Demonstration (political) to make it neutral. HopsonRoad (talk) 14:28, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Reversion

Hello!. You are reverted my edition ("This is a section on laws regarding protests, not reports of protests"). I believe two possibilities to save my edition:
1. Change the section title: Law by country -> Political demonstrations by country. This change would do the section more appropriate to the content of the article.
2. Add the laws. What laws for the creation of a new state?. Of course a lot of laws!. But if you prefer, these protests are against the Spanish Constitution where says in Section 2.: "The Constitution is based on the indissoluble unity of the Spanish Nation, the common and indivisible homeland of all Spaniards". Then the resulting text:
In Catalonia, since 2012 and promoted by the Catalan independence movement, a large number of major demonstrations have taken place (about a half to one million participants each time), not only on the National Day of Catalonia (September 11). Demonstrations against the Spanish Constitution, Section 2, where says "The Constitution is based on the indissoluble unity of the Spanish Nation, the common and indivisible homeland of all Spaniards". But also (and from 2017) other demonstrations has been placed to demand the freedom of political prisoners.

Jmarchn Thank you for your thoughts. Here are my reactions to your suggestions:
  1. The number of political demonstrations by country is enormous. It would be best covered in an article like "List of political demonstrations by country", per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists.
  2. The laws properly described in this section would pertain to the rights to free speech, to peacefully assemble and to present grievances, which are all elements of a political demonstration regardless of the message conveyed. What you are describing is the question of whether a political entity has the right to break away from Spain and whether independence leaders have been justly accused.

Demonstration (political)Political demonstration – Per WP:NATURAL, it is generally preferred to have an adjective-noun construction instead of an adjective in parentheses, so long as the adjective-noun construction is reasonably common in actual usage. King of ♥ 03:08, 19 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
