About me

edit

Hi, I'm Red Phoenix, an administrator on the English Wikipedia. I have been a Wikipedian since 2007, although there have been a few years in between then and now when I was not actively editing. As an editor, my primary focus is on video games, particularly those by Sega but I've also helped out with others. I help out in several areas in my role as an administrator, but I spend the most amount of time at WP:UAA with some help at WP:AIV and speedy deletion requests.

I'm in my early thirties and currently reside in Indiana, my home state. I enjoy retrogaming, from both video game consoles and arcade cabinets, as well as pinball machines. Outside of Wikipedia, I'm a sales representative for a delivery company and a self-published author of my own fantasy fiction novel series. I don't, however, contribute to any of the number of retro gaming video game projects on the internet. Wikipedia is the only project to which I contribute. That being said, I'm oftentimes quite busy outside of work, as I have a family and a job that takes up a lot of my time. I do my best to contribute when I can and how I can.

I picked my username as a teenager because it sounded cool. Initially, I registered on Wikipedia as Redphoenix526 but I usurped Red Phoenix in 2008 when I saw an opportunity. Shortly after joining, I became affiliated with WikiProject Sega - now the Sega task force of WikiProject Video games - and since then I've been the longest active member of the group. I'm still proud to be a member of the Video games WikiProject and believe I have my own niche there. In July 2020, I passed a request for adminship, nearly 13 years after initially registering my account.

As an editor, I have editing philosophies, as most editors do. I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity, and always strive to make the articles I edit the best they can be. I'm particularly fond of our featured and good article processes and how they improve our articles if they're done correctly. Many of my edits are WikiDragon style, which is part of why I have never had a high edit count and why I place little value in an absolute count of edits a user has. I also sometimes call myself a "WikiPhoenix" for my bold editing style and history of going inactive and returning to edit boldly again. The resulting pun on my username from that is not intended, merely coincidental.

I love collaborating on articles and I'm always glad to help out, so feel free to reach out to me on my talk page if I can ever be of assistance.
