editHello, I'm new to the Wikipedia community. I've enjoyed reading the articles for quite a while now, and just today decided that I would also like to contribute to the overall cleanliness of the site.
It will probably take quite a while before I dispute any facts or actually create any new articles, but in the meantime I'll do some vandalism watch (that was my first edit!) and some proofreading/editing.
Please let me know if I do anything wrong, or if I should change the way I record my edits in the edit summary.
Thanks!
{{unblock|I work at a school, and because of the students' constant need to vandalize, I too have been blocked. Does it not make a difference that I'm a registered user with a solid history of good and useful edits? I realize that my account hasn't actually been blocked, and if I accessed Wikipedia from a different IP address I could edit, but the only place I have internet access is here at the school. Is there no way around it? If not, your system is cheating you out of an enthusiastic and honest editor.}}
Copy of the block infobox: Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by Infrogmation for the following reason (see our blocking policy): vandalism; previous blocks for up to 3 months Your IP address is 139.142.154.105.
Wow, I've just noticed that this block is for 6 months. The frustrating part is that I myself have the school's IP address on my watchlist so that I can revert any of their vandalism. Stupid kids. My days at Wikipedia seem to be over because of them. Cfrydj 15:22, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Do not worry! It is likely you are subjected to collateral damage (WP:AUTOBLOCK), sometime soon when a sysop reviews this block they should be able to block the IP only allowing you to edit as normal again and keeping the students from vandalising. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 18:18, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- OK, thanks, I hope you're right! And I hope that this fix gets made soon! I'm quite bored at work today. Cfrydj 20:06, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
You should be able to edit from your classroom now. // Pilotguy (Have your say) 20:55, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Excellent, thank you!! Although, I'm not in a classroom, I work in the IT Centre. Cfrydj 21:40, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject Disambiguation Talk Request
editThis is a form message being sent to all WikiProject Disambiguation participants. I recently left a proposed banner idea on the WikiProject Disambiguation talk page and I would appreciate any input you could provide. Before it can be approved or denied, I would prefer a lot of feedback from multiple participants in the project. So if you have the time please join in the discussion to help improve the WikiProject. Keep up the good work in link repair and thanks for your time. Nehrams2020 22:20, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Subpages
editPlease don't edit my subpages. Thanks. Guettarda 15:29, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, fair enough. I thought you might appreciate the disambig link fixes, but I guess not. Sorry! Cfrydj 17:27, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Please note that disambiguation page entries should not have trailing punctuation, as per the style guideline.
Other than that, thanks for your extensive disambiguation work so far! --Piet Delport 02:07, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I can't find the part of the Manual of Style that indicates that there should not be trailing punctuation. I can see that in the examples they don't contain trailing punctuation, but it is never explicitly mentioned. Really, I'm just saying this to justify my error. I will be more aware of this in the future. Cfrydj 15:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Bullet point number 7. :)
- Entries should nearly always be sentence fragments. When the entry forms a complete sentence, do not include commas or periods at the end of the line.
- There's also Wikipedia's generic Unordered (bullet) lists guideline to fall back to, which discourages trailing punctuation in most cases.
- In any case, don't worry; it's only an error if you already know the guidelines, and go ahead anyway! --Piet Delport 00:52, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Somali people
editThanks for going in and tweaking some of the references to Somali. However, when it comes to the ethnic group, you might want to refer people to Somali people rather than Somalia as a nation. --Petercorless 23:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up, I realize that the Somali disambiguation cleanup is more touchy than most, and I've been trying to be careful when selecting either the Somali people or Somalia. Which article(s) are you referring to? Sometimes it can be quite unclear. Cfrydj 16:40, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation
editThanks for the help on the Roy Boehm article, I should have caught that, myself. I tried wikilinking as I was writing that one. Mike Searson 18:00, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Fellow Strathie
editHi, fellow Strathie. Do you still work at Strath? Are you still having problems with the block? If so, the tagging of the school IP address as {{SharedIPEDU}} should ensure that the IP address will never have a hard block imposed on it again. Its awfully considerate of you to revert vandalism from the school but don't you think its better having a block (soft)? At a laptop school such as strath, vandalism is inevitable. Also, I was just curious about our IT department's involvment in wikipedia, both formal and informal. Nice to see we have some people working for, instead of against, Wikipedia at strath.--Billy (talk) 02:35, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
