Teahouse comment reply-IMDB
@Marchjuly: Thank you for noticing that I run a PR firm, however the changes and additions I am making to wikipedia are within the guidelines of Wikipedia and are not "a conflict of interest" in any way. I am not writing editorial about my company or any other company or person, not even about my own clients. I was asked by industry friends to update one piece of information in Wiki articles--Audrey Hollander and Otto Bauer are now divorced-- and found that someone had chosen to delete Otto Bauer's wiki article all together. Sometimes just because a person may be a publicist or marketer, doesn't mean they are making changes for some nefarious reason, nor is it always a business related reason for them to do so. In this case, I was simply trying to do friends a favor that don't know how to work with Wikipedia and don't have anyone else to do it for them. As for my change of user name request--that's Wikipedia's idea. I'm getting messages that I have to change my user name (with no instruction on how to do that BTW) when I've done updates under the name BlackAndBlueMedia a few times over the years, with no problem. So whatever you are inferring from that, it's all Wikipedia's request that it be changed and I've already told Wiki TPTB I can use my real name, Sherry Ziegelmeyer, with no regret. That they won't accept that as an answer and either make the change or leave it as is, is out of my hands. BlackAndBlueMedia (talk) 21:54, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the message BlackAndBlueMedia. Replying here was OK, but it's often better to reply where the original post was made just to make it easier for others to follow along with the conversation. Also, there's no need to ping someone when you post on their talk page. Users automatically receive notifications whenever someone leaves them a message on their talk page. If you're not sure how or what you can post on talk pages, then take a look at Wikipedia's talk page guidelines.
- Now back to your question. I'm sorry, but I was not requesting that you change your username and was not aware that you run a PR firm. I was just pointing out that from some of the comments you were making made it seem like "you may have some kind of professional or personal connection with the subject(s) of some of the Wikipedia articles you've been editing." and "If that is the truly case, then you'd be considered to have a conflict of interest." I then suggested a few Wikipedia pages that you probably should look at just to familiarize yourself with what types of edits COI editors are allowed to make. Just for reference, Wikipedia articles are not the property of the subject of the article, the person who created the article or any particular editor working on the article per WP:OWN. In principle, anyone can edit an article as long as the comply with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Whenever there is a disagreement about what should be included in article, editors are encouraged to discuss things on the article's talk page and try to reach a consensus. Saying that you are make an edit just to "do friends a favor" or because "So and so requested it" is likely to cause other editors, rightly or wrongly, to question your neutral point of view and might lead them to believe that you do have an apparent or potential conflict of interest. Perception is important so if other editors feel you are not really here to build an encyclopedia or are simply a single purpose account, then you might find it hard to get others to accept your edits. As I wrote in my Teahouse post, COI editing is not expressly prohibited on Wikipedia; It is, however, tricky to pull off and there are limits to what types of edits such editors are allowed to make per "Advice for editors who may have a conflict of interest" (Please note the keyword is "may").
- Finally, I noticed that you were trying to add information to Audrey Hollander about her divorce. I will post a comment at Talk:Audrey Hollander, since comments about specific article should be made on the article's talk page to make easier for others (perhaps those watching the page) to participate in the discussion as needed. Please feel free to join in if you like. - Marchjuly (talk) 01:02, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks for the notification Lor, but I think you've mistaken me for someone else. I didn't ask that particular Teahouse question. I did, however, try to answer it. - Marchjuly (talk) 00:34, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Oh....Huh. Don't know what i was doing then to be honest. Thanks though LorTalk 00:42, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
