To keep conversations threaded and readable, please follow the procedure below:
- If you post a message here, watchlist this page. I will reply here.
- If I have posted a message on your talk page, I will have it watchlisted. Reply there. (If I'm being outrageously slow about responding, or if you just want a quick reply, feel free to ping me here to get my attention.)
- Note that I don't follow my own policy when a new user posts on my page; a post on their talk page is much more likely to reach them, so I reply there.
In an attempt to harness the labor of good natured folks who happen to click on this talk page, I'm going to put a list of the articles I've most recently created or rewritten here. Are they good? Do they make no sense? Are they so boring you fell asleep while reading the lead? Did I confuse east with west or left with right again? You decide! Feedback, screwup-fixing, or bold improvement is greatly appreciated.
Regarding your Threat on my User Page to have me Blocked
editI understand that you disagree with my protests about your gang's POV and fictional additions to Classical history-related articles, however making threats like this is against Wikipedia policy and you have no business jumping in and interfering in conversations that you are not involved in.
I think you are the one that is setting yourself up for a Block with this kind of behavior. Mehrshad123 20:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Wikimedia logo
editExactly my point. The logo currently does NOT cary a Fair use rationale, and is not tagged with the {{logo}} template. --TheDJ (talk • contribs • WikiProject Television) 12:31, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. I refuse to add {{logo}} to that specific image, because it's not a limited resolution version of the logo in my opinion, and as such it would not be a proper Fair Use tagging. I might be making a POINT, but apparently, sometimes you need to scream quite loud before people hear you in wikipedia. I have GOOD concerns about the usage of wikimedia foundation logos within wikipedia, and people dont' seem to give an F, simply because it's the logo of the foundation. I do not think the fact that this is a logo of the foundation is an excuse, it is a reason to make this one of the first images to sort out under the "newer" policies. If fair use is our only EDP, then this image usage is in violation with our own policies atm. --TheDJ (talk • contribs • WikiProject Television) 12:54, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! How are you? In Greece we say Χριστός Ανέστη these days!
Since you are a classicist, a person who has copy-edited the article in the past , a member of WP:GREECE, and a person whose the opinion I trust a lot, I wanted your input to this: User:Haiduc proposed some changes for Demosthenes. I was reluctant to accept them, but then I let him add a new section, which I just modified a bit. You can see the discussion here, and the recent additions in the article's recent history (Haiduc's addition and my modifications). As the main contributor of this article I cannot be as objective as I would like. Since I am not yet sure about the utility of such additions, and since we speak about a FA and the issue is serious I think that your opinion and your input (among those of other prominent classisists) will be very useful. Please, please, have a look at the article and the discussion! Thanks in advance!
Cheers! And χρόνια πολλά!--Yannismarou 15:48, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Confused
editHi, does this mean that it's all done? Because there are still several left that haven't been crossed out and made invisible, but I don't want to go through them if they've already been done. Cheers. ElinorD (talk) 06:13, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, it seemed a bit silly to cross out/invisiblize the last batch, so I just stuck a note at the top when I finished them. --RobthTalk 12:45, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

IFD
editI absolutely did consider the legal question. Our image is much smaller than their cover and I don't believe they are going to lose any sales over our reduced-size image being shown here. If you think there is some threat to their commercial rights then the best thing to do would be to make our image even smaller. Johntex\talk 18:26, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Any time the image is owned by someone else, they have a potential to be trying to sell it. The argument you are attempting to make could also be made for images like the photo of Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima. Fair use law allows us to make use of small sections of published works. That would include a suitable resolution image of a magazine cover. Johntex\talk 18:38, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments. I still disagree with your interpretation. If the matter is important to you then I suggest you take that closure to Deletion Review. Best, Johntex\talk 18:54, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Parthenon
editHi, Robth! As a matter of fact, what has to do with the Older Parthenon was not written by me. I just created the sub-article with the already existing material, and summarized it in the Parthenon article. editDear Robth, thank you for you efforts to build consensus on my RfA. As you know, it was unsuccessful. I am not the type of editor to be disheartened by such a result, and have gained much experience.
I will run again, however I am concerned that I may see your name in the same place, for the same reasons. I would greatly appreciate knowing what I could do to earn your support next time.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg, by White Cat (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 11:11, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Contribution
editHello. I am currently trying to contribute to a battle in respect to giving a reason why a Viking force had to withdraw from a native attack, which I think was instrumental to the article itself and since the person in question received her place in history for that act. Its my understanding that Wikipedia is meant for contributions, but the people at that region see fit to leave the situation vague. They have told me that I cannot simply copy and past from references and, in short order, I re-wrote the small addition in my own words. I don't see what the problem here is, however, they simply revert my edits and give me vague conclusion to why they have done so. The site is intended to be used for non-commercial reproduction so we have no problems in copyright infringement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. InternetHero 23:00, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:ELIZABETH.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:ELIZABETH.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Actually you wrote the fair use statementSpartaz Humbug! 22:52, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

These days I wonder where I ever found the time to edit; if I'm not reading for a class, I'm working in my senior essay, and if it's not that I'm job-hunting (ok, and I also spend more time at the bar these days...). But, these things will pass, and I've certainly become a better historian since I was last busy around here, so hopefully one of these days I'll find time to come back and write up some of what I've learned. editHey there! Just dropping by to let you know that I've answered your question on ANI here. Cheers! m.o.p 06:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
removed nom
editNot sure what went wrong but in this edit you removed someone's nomination and replaced it with another. I presume it was an error, so I'll try to restore it. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 06:50, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Good catch! I see what I did (got an edit conflict, didn't respond to it right), so I'll remember not to do that again; thanks for correcting my error! --RobthTalk 14:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Congress of Gela
editOn 14 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Congress of Gela, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the result of the Congress of Gela, a peace conference in Sicily in 424 BC, has been compared to the Monroe Doctrine? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Wow
editWow! Welcome back! As far as I am concerned, I am mostly away! Away from my country, and away from most of my books, as you used to be! It seems that when you come back I go away, and vice versa! The important thing is that you are back, which is great for Wikipedia.
I hope that sometime in the future we'll manage to coordinate our timings, and work together on a topic of common interest!
By the way, check Epaminondas! They had sent it to FAR, and I did my best to save it, but, since you are the primary editor of the article, I think you should check its current status.--Yannismarou (talk) 16:11, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Inter-Collegiate Business Competition Reprised
editHi. I ran across some pretty outrageous uncited self-promotion in Inter-Collegiate Business Competition. Wondered how the article was accepted into Wiki in the first place, and decided to check logs. There, I found it was contributed before new article review was instituted. I would have dropped it there, perhaps adding a tag requesting references, but there was one log entry: Yours. Lol.[5]
Copyright violation! Uh-oh. So I go to check the URL you mentioned, and it's 404.
So now I'm thinking you might be the best person to pick this matter up? Or at least share any other experiences you had with this article? Best, 98.210.208.107 (talk) 16:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- I took a look at this. It's not the same as the copyvio I deleted in '06, but it sure does look like it was written for the group's own website. I assume you've googled key phrases, etc? --RobthTalk 12:55, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sometimes I latch on to something as a copyright violation. More often I just edit on WP:ELNO, WP:PEACOCK and WP:BIAS. (It's faster. Heh.) In this instance, it was a matter of WP:PEACOCK, and I just noticed incidentally there had been a copyright violation. So, no, I didn't do searches in this case on telling phrases.
- It's probably not a high volume article. I'm not especially concerned, but I thought you might like a heads up. Yours, 98.210.208.107 (talk) 16:22, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

editSo I just added a fair-use image to an article, and was reverted on the grounds that "we can't use copyrighted photos". Thought you'd appreciate the irony.—Chowbok ☠ 19:33, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
editFollowing a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change
editHello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
