The Battle of Adwa (also known as Adowa, or sometimes by the Italian name Adua) was fought on 1 March 1896 between the Ethiopian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy near the town of Adwa, Ethiopia, in Tigray. It was the climactic battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War, securing Ethiopian sovereignty.

The Battle of Adwa was the battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War. The Ethiopian forces led by Emperor Menilek II defeated the Italian invading force on Sunday 1 March 1896, near the town of Adwa, Ethiopia. The Victory of Adwa is a symbol of Freedom for all the black race and fight colonization of european forces. Ethiopia is the ONLY country never colonized in African countries.

The Battle of #Adwa, fought between the #Ethiopian Empire and the Kingdom of #Italy, won by the former, was one of the key events that decided the territories of #Eritrea and #Ethiopia. Following the disagreement on an article in the Treaty of #Wuchale, this battle was decisive in stopping Italy's ambitions to expand to Ethiopia. New treaties would be signed by the parties after the battle where Eritrea's territories would be defined.
