The flower smells of rotting meat, attracting the carrion flies that pollinate the bloom before it collapses in a decomposing mass in a matter of one or two days. I found this rafflesia just as it was opening and spent an entire day with it. I placed strobes inside the flower to illuminate a pollinating fly as it descended into the odorous interior.
