I feel confident in saying that this reader was in use well before the 1900’s. I got this little book because I found the illustrations to often be quite interesting, varying in size from 1”x1” (like engravings from the British chapbooks) to 3 ½”x 2 ½” and for the most part, if not all, were done specifically for this book.
