As the Second Age began a part of the Noldor chose to stay in Middle-earth, instead of crossing the western Sea. They settled in Lindon by the new coast, under High King Gil-galad, son of Orodreth. In 750 SA the only lasting Noldorin realm beyond the coast was established: Eregion, which Men called Hollin. Eregion was nigh to Khazad-dûm (known as Moria in the Third Age). From Ost-in-Edhil [on this map to far to the west], the capital of Eregion, the highroad ran to Khazad-dûm.
